The sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, Rockstar's take on spaghetti westerns, is coming to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall, Rockstar Games announced this morning.

Red Dead Redemption is the story of former outlaw John Marston and will take place at the turn of the 20th century when the "lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age."

"Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it."

“The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”

The game will use Rockstar's proprietary RAGE game engine, which was used in Table Tennis, Grand Theft Auto IV and Midnight Club: Los Angles.

The game will feature an open-world environment which will include frontier towns, wildlife-packed prairies and mountain passes.

I loved Red Dead Revolver, despite the average reviews and 1.5 million copies sold, and it's great to see that the sequel is finally moving forward. Now about that Gun sequel.

Firing from cover was a staple of Red Dead Revolver, so we can expect to see plenty more of it, and of situations requiring it

New Red Dead Redemption video shows off special outfits

If you want to get your hands on Rockstar’s upcoming Red Dead Redemption, you may want to pre-order it from GameStop so you can land one of three exclusive outfits for John Marston. We’ve posted a video detailing the pre-order incentive. If you want to take part in some nice video game democracy, hit this link to vote for your favorite exclusive outfit.

The special threads include the Savvy Merchant, Deadly Assassin, and the Expert Hunter. The Savvy Merchant will allow you to buy guns and ammunition from any gunsmith for half price. The Deadly Assassin helps regenerate your “Dead Eye” targeting twice as fast, and The Expert Hunter gets you double skins and hides when you kill an animal.

You can vote once every day until February 17. People in the US will get the game on April 27, while it’ll hit UK shelves on April 30. Check out the video below for more details.

Yup, day 1 for me!

I suspect just like The Saboteur, open world but cowboy western with a good storyline by Rockstar!

I know Sab isnt rockstar but they used pretty much the same method as the GTA like open world games. good stuff.

I think ima go with Amazon, Im a sucker for gold guns and $10 back. All the other **** always uses the same codes and is always available on the net day 1 for download thanks to folks posting. Least, all the games on ps3 where stuff like this has been offered that I was interested in did this haha. esp :gamestop:

Yeah, I'm going with the same.

P.S. Since your going through bestbuy, sign up for their gamers rewards club. $10 back for every $150 spent. And if you preorder the game before April 2nd, you get $5.

I may go BB if I got nothing to do that day .. But I may be hella busy with work and it wont matter if I get day 1 or 2 ... on the other hand, :amazon: may end up with release date delivery anyhoo .. Ill just have to check their product page closer to date.
