The sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, Rockstar's take on spaghetti westerns, is coming to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall, Rockstar Games announced this morning.

Red Dead Redemption is the story of former outlaw John Marston and will take place at the turn of the 20th century when the "lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age."

"Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it."

“The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”

The game will use Rockstar's proprietary RAGE game engine, which was used in Table Tennis, Grand Theft Auto IV and Midnight Club: Los Angles.

The game will feature an open-world environment which will include frontier towns, wildlife-packed prairies and mountain passes.

I loved Red Dead Revolver, despite the average reviews and 1.5 million copies sold, and it's great to see that the sequel is finally moving forward. Now about that Gun sequel.

Firing from cover was a staple of Red Dead Revolver, so we can expect to see plenty more of it, and of situations requiring it

I LOVED Gun! I'd spend time just riding the range to get that western feel. If we don't get a sequel to that, this could do it for me.

Between this and Call of Juarez, I hope one is good .. be awesome to have a cool western game on ps3 ...

updated OP with pic case.

I dont mind, I got enough damn games I wanna buy in 09' ... Im loving the push backs ... so long as they arent my top 3 shooters LOL! (MW2, BFBC2, Op Flash)

It was actually coupled with the information of Bioshock 2 getting pushed back. Take 2 pushed all their titles back to "Fiscal year 2010" ... however their fiscar year technically starts sometime in november ... So there is an odd chance any of those titles could release late Nov or December ... although I doubt it.

Well .... maybe not ... still showing Oct. 31st release date.

Firing from cover was a staple of Red Dead Revolver, so we can expect to see plenty more of it, and of situations requiring it, in the sequel Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar's released four new screens (added to OP) showcasing the feature.

April 17th 2010! I'll be getting this FOR SURE! I seen pre-order @ BB for it but no bonus so not worth it.

I thought it's out the 27th. Best Buy will be getting a preorder bonus. I think some horse that's really fast or something. I got a notice from them already about it. Gamers Club.
