Hey guys, here is a chance for you to vote on whether you buy and sell Steelbooks for profit-whether that profit is large or small. You can vote anonymously, or chime into the thread. Since the hobby can be costly, and we have Steelbook fans of all tastes here, feel free to share your thoughts.

This is a very inflammatory topic-please keep it civil. We always want to create a fun, safe space for movie fans and collectors, so enjoy the debate!

This is an anonymous poll, and you are free to choose multiple options in the answer section.

Have fun all,

DB

If I'm having a clearout then I'm generally happy to sell near enough at cost. Sometimes I'll sell an item for a profit if it's OOS/OOP but that's generally to fund the purchase of other steelbooks.

If i get a feeling something is unique and is worth buying i get to sell so i can fund a purchase i really want which i will keep and with a lot of classics getting released it is getting expensive. collecting steels is not my main past time.

I mostly buy for myself but I have previously & will again in the future pick up some to trade for my wants but not very often.

I always buy spares of the most popular titles, I don't want to be left empty handed or with a damaged Steelbook. I've never bought more than three copies of any one title. Sure I've made profit here and there, but i've also made a loss on some titles, so in the end it all evens out in my opinion.

i have only sold 3 steelbooks ever making a profit, 2 on ebay auction and one to a member here, i prefer to trade rather than sell hence why my trading thread has no prices, i have sold a handful more for cost price to other members here and those other members have returned the favour , in all honesty i have never bought a steelbook thinking i will make a profit when it is oos/oop , instead i thought i will be able to use some of these to get other oos/oop steelbooks i'm after, rather than paying a small fortune for them

In general, most people buy a few steels, a few spares for trade and the odd one or two to sell and make a few quid. This hobby can become expensive and highly addictive, especially if you just start collecting. Most make a little profit to help fund the hobby. It all helps.

I almost voted for a fair few options there - I don't think it's possible to fund the hobby through buying selling unless you do it on a Chip or Socrates scale - and fair play to anyone who manages to make this work!

I do pick up a few copies where I've found them after they've gone OOP (relisted cancellations etc.), the odd one or two upon release and a few grails when the opportunity arises. Yet I don't have the time and I do have a wife who is complaining about how many I have! :hilarious: :naughty: But... :boobies: ! I'm still not sure if :boobies: > :movie: or the other way round!!!

In all seriousness, I am debating how long to keep collecting everything I like + everything I think is a future investment, particularly given LGB, CA, Thor announcements recently and I'm sure, many more to come. I'm not going to quit, I have quite an addictive personality so once I go for something I want to do it right (EEK!), however may try to restrict myself a bit...

Great idea for a poll, Sunny!

I have not got the time to piffle about posting very delicate packages to strangers when i have a husband who works full time , house , part time job , two kids year 5 10years old and 7 12years old and three Degus .

Chauffeur to my mum who is in her late 70's making sure she gets where she wants and needs to be :D.

If a member needed help to get a steelbook yes I would do it at the same price I had payed. As long as the member covered postage costs to where ever in the world it needed to go.

Those that do it for nothing other than buy 3 and above for £15 then sell the same film for £40+ must have not a lot to fill the time that is available to them in the day.

To list wrap post out Blah Blah Blah NO thanks I have enough stress in my life without adding more too it EEK!.

i buy 2-3 copies of steels they sell out before shipping because im scared they arrive damaged. make profit of it to funding the hobby is more a welcome side effect.

I buy multiples when there's a sale/good deal in order to trade/sell later on. Do I make a killing? No, do I make some profit, yes. But I also have a lot of money tied up in trade stock too. So who knows really.

My hobby HAS to pay for it self so i HAVE to buy extras to sell on to pay for my keeps as i dont have the money to buy them otherwise, any money i make stays in my paypal for the next steelbooks i want, i try to make enough to cover the steel i want to keep, i gave up collecting autographs and turned to steelbooks after i got my 3D tV and i wanted the german Avatar in 3D with the lenticular front which was my first steel, the money from my autographs started me off on my collection of steelbooks after spending a small fortune in a couple of months my money was running low my autographs were nearly all sold so it was give up collecting or try to fund the collection another way so buying a couple of spares to trade or sell is my only option if i want to collect steels, so in some peoples eyes im a scalper, but then im covered in tattoos and have ear tunnels so im used to being an outcast and really dont care what other people think, its there problem not mine. If people want to spend there life worrying and moaning about what other people do then i can only imagine they have an empty space in your life that needs filling. No laws being broken here.

for every iron man play.com you buy 10 battle royale/old boys
- time you spent
- ebay fees, returns, refunds etc.

its just not worth it
