Sky Broadband has been preventing some of its U.K. customers from getting on the PlayStation Network during peak hours, which are from 5:00 PM to midnight.
"Our network management system mistakenly classified PlayStation [Network] traffic in a way which meant some customers using their consoles to access the internet may have had their speeds reduced, in line with our network management policy for Sky Broadband Connect," Sky told Eurogamer in a statement.
"This was a mistake and resulted from a systems error, for which we apologize. Our team is working on fixing this as a matter of urgency. All other Sky Broadband users are unaffected, as there are no traffic management policies in place for our on-network broadband services."
In short, Sky?s system mistakenly classified PSN as a torrent. PSN is obviously not a torrent, though, so why would it be blocked? Eurogamer speculates that PSN could have been flagged after the launch of VidZone, the new on-demand music video-streaming service. Regardless of what caused it, Sky Broadband admits its fault and that this is an urgent issue.
