Sony plans to grow its peripheral licensing business by encouraging peripheral makers to make new products.

Third parties that enter into a licensing agreement with Sony will receive support documents to help them better design and create peripherals for use with the PSP, PS3, and PS2. Those who enter into this agreement will have the privilege of having the Sony ?Official Licensed Product? logo on the packaging.

Sony is doing so with the hope that this will ?further expand the PSP, PS3, and PS2 platforms.? Interested companies can go request a form to apply to be in the program on Sony?s website.

not sure what was the hold up. We have a lab at work and a wall full of Xbox 360 peripherals and always wondered why Sony never opened up to 3rd party devs.

Better late than never I guess :)
