Just to expand on the answers already given to your question (XL = eXtra Large), in case you're wondering... they're bigger in width only, so they're still the same height and length, but just fatter lol.

And to add to it further, it’s thicker because a folder holding cards (and usually more cards/photos) is added. The plus side is that the folder can be nicely done with extra art/logo with special treatment etc. The downside is of course that it takes up more space and doesn’t go as well with "normal" slip sizes, hence why many dislike them.
