Why wouldn’t there be? They are shipped to Zavvi in boxes too.

Considering all other issues that the replacement of the replacement could have, it ain’t that bad lol
The only conclusion is that they cost pennys to make because someone would get a serious slap in the pay packet for destroying valuable stock in every place I’ve worked. Why wouldn’t they say don’t open these with a knife? Dumb business model

Or be packed with a layer of cardboard or polystyrene over the top of the product to act as a layer of protection from the knife.

You're not going to stop them opening the boxes with a knife as it's the quickest and simplest way of opening them. But when I worked in a warehouse, I would set the knife to as small a blade as possible so it was sufficient to cut through the tape and nothing more.

You’d think that would be the only way to do it. All those wasted products.... crazy.

As if that was ever likely...
Probably because they have another “perfect set” planned for the future, so we can try again to get the ultimate matching set. For me this is the last money I’m spending on Star Wars. Unless they bring out a non specialised original trilogy. For the most part though, I think they’re a nice set.

I still wish they had offered the option for partial refunds instead of all replacements. All I'm going to do is transfer a magnet from one to the other. I would have rather had 20%ish refunded.
Sorry to be pedantic about the situation, but why would they offer a partial refund? Assuming this wasn’t an issue in the first instance, you’d of paid full price to receive a faultless steelbook.
You've now paid full price and they’re (hopefully) going to issue you with a faultless steelbook, which is what you ordered in the first instance.

Because from their perspective it would save them money and hassle of re-printing and more postage, and from my perspective, because I don't want a 'faultless' steelbook, because let's be honest, no one can call that abominable art, faultless, scrathes or not.

Scanavo done the replacement print run of the steelbook cases due a fault in the manfacturing process
Retailer does not pay for this that's covered by scanavo

When a mistake happens by the manufacture of a product with a large batch of the item involved the company who make the product or distributor pay the costs involved in doing replacements not the retailer

Zavvi are only a retailer who are given products to sell from suppliers/distributors
Zavvi don't manufacture any items they sell

I know Zavvi don't manufacture them, I was just making a point. Though I assume they will be paying for the postage for the few thousand re-prints, unless that is covered by some sort of insurance, and not to mention, the money spent simply in time dealing with their warehouse sending them all out again.

No plastic protection! Crazy. How much would it cost for a little baggy?I’m still waited no for my replacements.

I expected this. I mentioned this waaaay back when they announced that they would be replacing them that they would probably be handled by Scanavo and placed in boxes unsealed and then shipped to Zavvi who would then take them out of the boxes, handle them again and then place them in their white boxes, still unsealed.

Fun.

I can pretty much guarantee you scanavo never individually seal steelbooks, and probably do not have the ability to either. Steelbooks would typically go from scanavo direct to the distributor, so that the discs and jcards can be added. They're then sealed distributor end and delivered to the end retailer.

Since these would have skipped that second step, I wasn't at all surprised to receive mine unsealed. Should they be sealed for protection, definitely, but there we go..

Never actually thought about this before, but it makes sense I guess. Probably also explains why so many arrive with scratches under the wrap if they're shipped from Scanavo unprotected.
