From an interview with Disney CEO:
"There's been speculation about some standalone films in development, and I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films. [Lawrence] Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films, derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. So we still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 roughly over a six year period of time, starting 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too."
Whaaaaaaaattttt???? :wtf:

:wtf: Disney?

The way I look at it they've got a long way to go to **** things up worse than Lucas did with Jar Jar and episodes 1 - 3! I hope it will be more like what Disney have done with the Avengers :)

thats a very good point you raised regarding jar jar binks lol.....i suppose if the directors are right and the screenwriters are resourcefull with the material available there is scope for some outstanding movies....

Also it doesn't make good business sense to spend over 4 billion to buy the series then screw it all up, with crap films! I mean they've already got a huge fan base all ready to spend hundreds of millions on watching the films and buying the merchandise, so I don't think they would want to risk all that possible revenue!

I think fox only held distribution rights, but like any deal they must have an expiery date and because Disney paid for everything, then if the deal with Fox does expire then it will all revert to Mickey Mouse :)

Wouldn't it be interesting if the standalone movies were of the dark side...

Star Wars Origins: The Emperor
Star Wars Origins: Darth Maul

You may even still be able to get a story with Obi Wan and Anakin, those actors are still young enough to play those roles i'd imagine...

At last new brains working on this ultra magnetic super dooper classic saga.
