Packaging wise, this edition beats the US edition (if you prefer hard boxes and printed material). The US edition has a really nice embossed slip though.

USA release Blu-ray has error on 5.1 audio and CD also has error if you are not aware about this
Severin have a replacement discs if you want corrected discs.

UK Blu-ray is better even if you get replacement discs from Severin

UK Second Sight release don't have the discs errors
It was second sight who spotted the errors before they released their release

Great decade for 'horror', it must be said, with my favourite from the decade THE VANISHING (1988) closely followed by these (in no particular order) CHRISTINE, PHENOMENA, THE FOG, CAT'S EYE, THE HITCHER, BURIAL GROUND, RE-ANIMATOR, THE THING, PREDATOR, CHILD'S PLAY, THE SHIINING, CUJO, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, FRIDAY THE 13TH, BASKET CASE . . .

George Sluizer's original THE VANISHING (original title SPOORLOOS) was an incredible film.
I feel terrible for people who saw the U.S. remake instead*. Not only was the U.S. remake terrible - it also ruined any viewing of the original afterwards, because it gave away the ending. (Which was desecrated in the U.S. version by making a "happy" version of the ending).
I was lucky enough to see the original when it came out - and had no idea about the ending (not alot of people saw the film, so there weren't spoiler people talking about it). One of the great endings of all time.
It was revolutionary in its storytelling too. It straight up tells you who the villain is at the beginning. It just doesn't tell you why he did it, or the eventual fate until the end - so you (the viewer) are effectively in the same boat as the protagonist.
All I can say is - the film explores the very defintion of the phrase "the banality of evil".

(I loved the original Criterion cover for the DVD edition (above). The Criterion blu ray cover is, sadly, terrible)

* the oddest part of the terrible U.S. remake was that it was directed by Sluizer, remaking his own (altered) material.
