Old info:
The fact that there will be another Batman film in Christopher Nolan’s presumptive trilogy is assumed by just about everyone, despite the fact that there has been no formal announcement of the film. But in the runup to the release of Nolan’s Inception, which opens on July 16, there is already some talk about what the next Batman film might look like.

Wally Pfister is the cinematographer responsible for all of Christopher Nolan’s features from Memento on, and his photography was one of the things I liked best about The Dark Knight. He captured Chicago-as-Gotham with a simplicity and clarity that was very uncharacteristic of most superhero films. Now he’s talking about possibilities for the third film, including the option of 3D. Hint: don’t expect Batman 3D.

Cinematical spoke to Pfister when the Dallas Film Society presented him with the Star Award for accomplishments in cinematography. The site promises a full interview in which Pfister explains the “mutual disinterest” he and Christopher Nolan have for 3D. But they do quote him saying,
What Chris and I have talked about is doing something cool and something interesting…Brad Bird was [saying] ‘you’ve got to shoot the whole thing in IMAX!’ I was like, yeah, I’ve talked to Chris about that.

There’s also another comment, which seems to refer to shooting more of this upcoming film in IMAX:

But I think Chris is game for doing something interesting like that, Lord knows that the 3-D fad might pass by the time that summer comes around.

AICN, meanwhile, got a few more of Pfister’s comments from a tipster. Both the cinematographer and Nolan are disinterested in digital cinematography and very much prefer to shoot on film. That’s the root of their disinterest in 3D, which Pfister said is “great for like amusement park rides like the ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’ ride at Disneyland.” Pfister also called 3D a distraction and not realistic.

The appeal of IMAX and the disinterest in 3D both come from that love of shooting on film. While 3D lacks realism, shooting in IMAX has huge latitude, and captures incredible detail. The downside to IMAX is that the cameras are bulky and loud, and the format is expensive.

FYI, Batman on Film is saying that Warner Bros. will officially announce the third Batman film in July. Which isn’t that much of a deductive leap, as Nolan hasn’t been interested in talking about Batman while he finishes Inception, and that movie is released in July. Plus, there’s that little Comic Con gathering in San Diego. So expect more news in July.

Chris Nolan On The Third And Final Batman Film?

Director Chris Nolan opened up a bit about the third Batman film and the direction he wants to go sounds like it could be the last one! He revealed:

"We have a great ensemble, that's one of the attractions of doing another film, since we've been having a great time for years. Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story.

"And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story."

He didn't say which villain would appear in the next movie, just that Mr. Freeze was not going to show up. It's also unclear if the movie will continue from where The Dark Knight left off or start fresh with a new story featuring the Caped Crusader. Nolan continues:

"I'm very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we've done with the characters. My brother [screenwriter Jonathan Nolan] has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these things don't go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful.

"Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we're telling. And it harkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories. That's what we do."

Batman 3 Has An Official Release Date!!

After the announcement of the third Chris Nolan-directed Batman film, Warner Bros. has set the official release date to July 20, 2012.

The studio is in the very early stages of development, yet Nolan has said this is most likely the last film in the series.

So far, no word yet on which big villain will be featured. Whoever it is, it will be hard to fill the shoes of Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, The New Riddler In The Next Batman Film???

Director Christopher Nolan trades in the Joker for the Riddler in the next Batman movie and has pegged his ‘Inception’ star, JGL, to star!

What started off as a joke has become a reality —Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who stars in Christopher Nolan’s new film, Inception, is the director’s first pick to play The Riddler in the next installment of the Batman franchise!

“Chris really dug Joseph [as an actor],” a source close to the director tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “There was a joke at first between them [on the set of Inception] that Joseph wanted to read for Batman 3 and things heated up as filming continued.”

Adds the insider, “It’s not 100% confirmed that he’s getting [the role of The Riddler] but there’s certainly talk about it. Joseph is definitely on the short list.” This should make fans happy, especially as several fan sites have expressed a wish to see the 500 Days of Summer cutie score the role!

But don’t expect to find out anytime soon whether the 29-year-old actor will actually become The Riddler in reality — the script is still being written! Also don’t expect to see JGL take on his 10 Things I Hate About You co-star Heath Ledger’s posthumous Oscar-winning role of The Joker, either — Nolan has already confirmed that he won’t be recasting that particular part. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s rep says, “This is not true.”

The working titled Batman 3 is slated for a July 2012 release, but if you can’t wait to see a Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Christopher Nolan collaboration, check out Inception when it premieres July 16.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Short Listed To Play The Riddler In New Batman!

joseph-gordon-levitt.jpg

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Riddler in Batman 3. This is only a rumor at this point because the Batman 3 movie project has not confirmed that Gordon-Levitt will be the Riddler. However, Joseph Gordon-Levitt could make the cut because if you notice in the photo, he looks identical to the real villain.

Gordon-Levitt, 29, was listed on the casting grid as a possible Batman 3 Riddler. However, casting grids can change by the day and are used by industry insiders to keep tabs on the roles available for actors. This doesn't mean the actors will get the job.

One thing we do know is that the Batman 3 villain will be the Riddler. Several actors have already said they want the part. Robin Williams expressed interest, but the movie might want someone young to bring new faces on the screen. The franchise is notorious for that.

Batman 3 Gets A Start Date and villain!

Sources are reporting that director Christopher Nolan's third Batman film will begin production in April of 2011 in New Orleans!

Batman 3 Villain To Be…A Killer Croc?

Scottish comic book writer Mark Millar claimed via Twitter that he heard Batman 3 gossip at the Big Apple Con in NYC last weekend:

“Con gossip: I know who the villain(s) are in Batman 3 and the big scene outside Gotham sounds awesome. Totally timely locale."

More from Millar via Twitter:

"One of the villains is from my favorite childhood run on the character. Again, very unexpected."

No concrete information has been released, but lots of fans think that Millar is referring to Killer Croc.

Tom Hardy Reunited With 'Inception' Director Chris Nolan On 'Batman'

220px-TomHardyJuly10.jpg

While Tom Hardy's plan to play Mad Max in the George Miller-directed Mad Max: Fury Road has hit another delay, the fast-rising Hardy's in the mix for another big film at Warner Bros. I'm told that Hardy has been set by his Inception director Chris Nolan for a lead role in the next Batman film at Warner Bros. Insiders are keeping the role secret and won't even say if he's up for a villain role, but that seems a reasonable assumption. Hardy has followed up Inception with lead roles in the Tomas Alfredson-directed adaptation of the John Le Carre novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and he's currently starring with Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon in the McG-directed Fox comedy This Means War. CAA reps Hardy, who's expected to return to Fury Road when it goes.

Christopher Nolan has finally broken his silence about the forthcoming Dark Knight sequel, announcing the film's title and ruling out a character who, up until this point, was thought to be frontrunner for the villain of the piece.

Speaking to Hero Complex, Nolan revealed that the Batman 3 title will be The Dark Knight Rises, and in a move that may surprise some fans, he said that the film's villain won't be The Riddler.

That should come as a disappointment to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy - thought to be favourites to win that particular part - although the latter will still apparently appear in an unspecified role.

Nolan also announced that the sequel would be shot in 2D rather than 3D, thereby retaining the high-definition IMAX approach that served him so well on the first two films.

The Dark Knight Rises will again be scripted by Christopher and Jonah Nolan, based on a story by David Goyer.

So which villain would you like to see terrorise Gotham City in part three? Could it be a female character, as rumoured yesterday?

Tom Hardy's 'Dark Knight Rises' role revealed?

HugoStrange.jpg

Tom Hardy is rumored to have been cast as Dr Hugo Strange in director Christopher Nolan's film The Dark Knight Rises.

Total Film reports that the upcoming sequel will be based on the graphic novel Prey and feature Batman being pursued by Hardy's deranged police psychiatrist.

Prey's storyline follows Dr Hugo Strange as he hypnotises a police officer into becoming a vigilante in an attempt to bring Batman out of hiding.

The movie's cinematographer Wally Pfister recently revealed that sections of The Dark Knight Rises will be filmed in IMAX.

Nolan is thought to be still searching for a leading lady.

'Dark Knight Rises' Won't Include Joker; Will Be Nolan's Last Batman Film

http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/12/0...er/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

The inevitable Joker rumors began circulating again yesterday by way of Comic Book Movie, whose source told them that Christopher Nolan was seriously thinking about including a nod to Heath Ledger in 'The Dark Knight Rises' by either re-using some old footage from 'Dark Knight' that was never in the final film, or by creating some sort of CG wizardry, which as 'The Sopranos' once proved, is a little strange and more than a little creepy. At first glance, maybe it didn't sound so ridiculous, especially since Nolan included Scarecrow in 'The Dark Knight' as a way to bridge the first two films. Could he be looking to the same with Joker in order to tie it all together?

No, not likely at all. If Nolan saying previously that he wouldn't include Ledger (or Joker) in the third Batman film out of respect to the actor and his legacy, then Warner Bros. also wants you to know that it ain't happening. A source for the studio told Moviehole that the Ledger rumor is "just not real", and while a much earlier, pre-'Dark Knight' storyline involved Joker returning in the third film to help Batman catch Two-Face, Ledger's death immediately put an end to that.

And speaking of ending things, Nolan also confirmed to EW this week that 'The Dark Knight Rises' would indeed be "the last chapter of our Batman saga." Obviously that won't be the end of Batman, with rumors of a TV series kicking around and Warner Bros. possibly resurrecting the 'Batman vs. Superman' idea. Once Nolan is out of the picture, though, expect Warner Bros. to feel out the situation and bring back the Joker as a live-action character in future Batman productions as soon as they feel the time is right.
