I managed to order this for £15 this morning but looks like the price is back up to £30. May well have been a pricing error from Amazon. Of course I hope they honour the mistake...Wait and see I suppose.

Are you sure it wasn’t the standard edition. I know there is a similar edition without the 4K and extras that is £15.

I've just checked and you are absolutely right. Got confused by the same cover and thought I might have snaffled a bargain as you sometimes can do with Amazon pricing mistakes. Never mind. Just cancelled that order and ordered the actual CE. Thanks for pointing that out. I might have carried on blissfully unaware until it turned up.

No worries, the covers are very similar. Glad you got it sorted.:)

I tried to upload the pics but they’re too big. That’s why I posted the link. In case people wanted to see in hand shots
could just use the facebook url for the pics if thats the case. or resize them and upload here. Facebook has all the money in the world, we prefer not to divert traffic to there as we fight to keep this site alive.

My little review

Tonight’s movie is the uk studiocanal release of the newly 4k remastered The Deer Hunter.

This looks amazing. The subtle hdr on the lights, the fires, the red candles in the church. The stain glass windows.

The wide colour gamut of Rec 2020 also brings pop to the greens. The grass in the war scenes is very vibrant and such the reds as well. The smoke is white and clear and the mist on the rocks when DeNiro wearing his orange jacket is a beautiful rendered shot. Grain is present which is good to know and there’s some excellent fine detail shots too. The pistol shooting torture scene about 80 mins in is a little dark than I remember. Will need to dig out the old blu Ray to compare. Could be the way it was shot or an effect of HDR mastering. It has been known before. But it’s a short scene and didn’t put me off.

For a film this age, it really brings joy to see it lovingly restored.

Audio wise there’s English 2.0 dts hd ma track and an English 5.1 dts hd ma remastered from the 70mm six track Dolby stereo. That’s the one that I chose. Don’t expect Bladerunner 2049 bass here. It’s a good sounding track which was made many many years ago.

Overall. I’m extremely happy with my purchase and it’s the best it’s ever looked. Such a great film. Well done studio canal.
