I'll still be surprised if there are 5 discs. I get the theory behind the content for the 5, but it's just not usual, particularly for WB. Previous 1080p releases have had separate discs, but the 4K is new, and could easily use branching, like Rocky IV. Then again superman 2 could've as well, and didn't, so we'll have to see.

A contact from Warner has provided me with the following info
  • There will be two SteelBook designs in the market globally
  • Sku design and configuration will vary across territories (e.g standalone SteelBook, Ultimate Collectors Edition with SteelBook, Ultimate Collectors Edition without SteelBook)
  • Both Theatrical and Director's Cuts have been remastered on 4K. Both the 4K and Blu-ray versions are on their own discs (4 discs).
  • Premium skus may include the additional Special Features Blu-ray, previously released on the 40th Anniversary Special Editions
  • More visuals and pre-order information will be shared in late July

So we gotta wait a month for the art now, and there will be a stacked 5-disc steelbook...
Not necessarily. He said standalone steels will be 4 disc, and the collector's editions may have a 5th disc. The steels will be the same regardless, so if only the collector's editions have a bonus disc, it's unlikely to be in the steelbook.

Right, they could put it an amaray in the CE box.
I wonder if the 4 discs in the steelbooks will have overlapping trays.

Yeah I'd say it'd more likely be in a paper thin slip (like when manta have a 3rd disc) slotted into the folder, with the cards etc.., but something like that. I'd think the steel would have 4 separate trays, like superman 2 did.

The Bonus disc would be in the Steelbook
Left or right side hub can be used to include the 5th disc

SteelBooks now use deeper hubs that's why jumbo are no longer required.

Really? I can't think of a 4 disc steel I own, that has 4 individual hubs, where the left or right is deep enough to house 2 discs.

If the bonus disc is only in the collector's editions, and not in the steelbook that is made for individual sale (assuming one is), I can't see it being in the steel. They'll all be the same.

A SteelBook that has just 2 individual hubs can have configuration to include 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 discs

Hub 1 on the left side and Hub 2 on the right side
The deeper hubs each can fit 3 discs if required
That's why you can now have 6 discs in a standard SteelBook with just 2 hubs
You just stack discs on each hub

The distributor gets delivery of a empty SteelBook from Scanavo
The distributor then puts the discs inside.

SteelBooks can have different discs configuration in some countries

Very easy to have a same SteeBook and put inside either 4 or 5 discs
That's why scanavo now use the deeper hubs it does away with the need to use a Jumbo SteelBook

I understand that paul, I did say 4 INDIVIDUAL HUBS. There's no need for them to not use 4 individual hubs (like superman 2) if the majority of copies only have 4 discs. That's assuming the bonus disc is only for collector's editions and not for individual steel releases.

Well it won't be 4 individual hubs if it's to come with 5 discs, will it. It's gonna be the 3 stacked discs nightmare, like the Game of Thrones steels.

When collecting goes too far...bickering about disc hubs :shipped:
I understand your amusement, but it's actually an important part, and didn't use to be a problem, because we had proper cases, or long digipacks.
I personally don't care if discs are stuck in paper sleeves, I'm not delusional that they'll scratch, but it's very uncomfortable to pull off 2, or especially 3 discs off a hub, especially if you need one of those underneath.

Fair enough, do what most who complain dont, vote with your wallet
