Warner Bros. Television and the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien are in talks with Amazon Studios to develop a series based on the late author’s “The Lord of the Rings” novels. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is said by sources with knowledge of the situation to be personally involved in the negotiations, which are still in very early stages. No deal has been set.

The studio and the Tolkien estate have been shopping a series based on the classic fantasy novels and their assortment of hobbits, wizards, and warriors, sparking a competitive situation from which Amazon has emerged as the frontrunner.

Noob question from somebody who's not watching the show: How come they're allowed to use the exact designs from PJ's films? I know Weta and Howe are involved, but still, aren't these Warner/New Line licensed? This Balrog is 1:1 FOTR/TTT.
I assumed they maybe also bought the rights to them, if that's how it even works?? But I honestly don't know.

WOW, you got that right! So much is revealed now. :OMG: Definitely looking forward to next season. :thanks:

Hopefully we've not too long to wait if they stick to their promise. Either way, I'm sure it'll be worth it!

Loved the twist (even though I kind of saw it coming). But they did a great job with it. Fantastic finale.

Can't wait for season 2... Have they started filming yet?
