Starring: Ed Helms

Paramount Pictures has brought Ed Helms ("The Hangover" films, We're the Millers) on board to star in a reboot of "The Naked Gun" comedy franchise, reports Variety.

The return of Detective Frank Drebin, played by Leslie Nielsen in the original films, will be written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, best known for the "Night at the Museum" and "Reno 911!" franchises.

Based on the earlier short-lived ABC TV series "Police Squad!" (which also starred Nielsen), three films were released including The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991) and The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994).

Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker created the series.

are you serious?
For some strange reason, I was thinking of Airplane, and even did a Google search for Airplane 3, to check if I missed some DTV sequel...
Must have been falling asleep, brain didn't work.
Of course there's 3 Naked Gun movies, I know and like them.

It’s so weird and random. Only time I’ve seen him do comedy is with gervais on life’s too short and he was hilarious but I still don’t understand this
You should see Gun Shy, where he plays in comedic situations with a straight face, which is exactly what is needed here.
Leslie Nielsen was a serious actor too up until 1980's Airplane, maybe it's Neeson's time to change from his action dramas. Only Nielsen was 54 when he started, having 30 years left before his death at 84, and Neeson is already 72, but people age differently...

Can’t believe this is real. I kinda need to see it

Director of the lonely island stuff, the watch, Popstar and the chip and dale film a few years ago so that gives me some hope that this could actually be decent and he has a history of comedy. Also produced Palm Springs

Completely forgot this was happening! Saw the trailer on Insta without knowing what it was for, so that reveal came as a bit of a surprise lol. I'm well up for it anyway... miss this kind of dumb humour tbh.

I've got a feeling that this is going to be...

The Funniest Film Ever!
NGL. It looks hilarious and stupid in all the right ways.
It should be a travesty but might just be the most genius reboot of all time. I found that teaser frickin hysterical.

Some of it does look funny but I’m just not sure on Neeson’s delivery and comedic timing
