So, we have the "Fake" and "Steelbook Price Drop" thread, but we don't yet have the thread where you post listings with "crazy" prices for Steelbooks. If you see any, post them here and have fun debating. As per forum rules, please remain respectful with each other-one person's "high price", could be another's "deal of a lifetime" score. Enjoy! :scat:

Please keep discussion to Ebay and other retailers, not private sellers.

It's really tragic to see a veteran collector go, makes me wonder if I'll feel the same way eventually.

Its all about how you feel about your collection at any given point in relation to where its heading in the future and your personal situation mentally & financially. Everyone's in it for different reasons so those will certainly dictate what you do.

I use to have 160-170 steel books about 8 months ago and felt flustered by the whole thing at that point and decided I needed to cut back and change the way I collect so that my collection was nice (to me), my bank account was happy (sort of, lol) and at a pace that I would happy to keep collecting at for years to come and "actually enjoy the hobby" rather then it being a stress of some kind.

So I sold off about 120 or so steelbooks had it down to about 50 steelbooks a little while back and have since been much happier and found once I down-sized to a place where my collection was in harmony with my bank account and my mind being happy with that I had and where I was heading with my collection I started to enjoy the hobby again instead of it over-whelming me and making feel like it was a burden to just keep buying or keeping up.

Since downsizing to about 50 steels Im now up to 70 steels and am keeping in the hobby at a pace where I dont feel like its a stress on me. I do this buy collecting only stuff for movies that Im a really big fan of and leave rest of it alone. Finding that happy place mentally is what will sustain you in long run and actually make the hobby fun, all IMO of course. The whole completist behaviour will kill you in the hobby and make it very short-lived unless of course you have a very large bank account and $500 bucks a month is change to you.

This is just what I have observed, felt and experienced in my collecting since I started in early 2008 many years ago. So this is of course just my own thoughts. Thought I would share that. Oh and at a few points where I did think about just hanging it up the people i have met online or in person along the way in the hobby are reasons why I personally have stuck around as well. Met so many cool, kind and awesome people along the way. In my mind the people and passion for movies and common interests from those people have made the hobby much more then just collecting steelbooks.

Another big one over the years that certainly made people leave the hobby is the lack of exclusivity over the years of steelbooks in general and the lying from retailers about the claims that are made when the words like "limited" and "exclusive" are thrown around for whatever reason the collector doesn't really agree with the studio in there definition of those words. But thats entirely another matter.

I've slowed down on my pacing of collecting steelbooks too mainly 'cause of $$$ even though I've been collecting since Feb 2012. There are about 20 steelbooks that I regret buying which I've been wanting to trade them and if unsuccessfully, will sell them down the road.

There were certain rare steelbooks I was after but with the high price value of them, I've given up on them and best for me in long run to avoid spending too much. (i.e. IM FS)

I'm pretty selective now on what I want and mainly stick to ones that I can get a cheaper price like FS version of a movie I like over an asian version unless asian one has some goodies with it. (i.e. Dark Knight Rises SGP).

I'll explain.

I tend to be extreme in whatever I do and if I can't do it properly I end up not doing it at all. Work has gone crazy, family demands are high and I simply can't do collecting in the way that I want to - full on. No halfway house.

So, I've taken the decision to quit. I'll keep my Batman collection as thats how the whole thing started but I'm going to try to get some of the money back that I've spent.

I'll still be interested and still be around and will always try to buy any films I actually want in steel but the chase for trades, rare steels etc just can't be sustained and as I said, if I can't do it properly then its time to stop.

Cheers

Nick

Hey Pommy Lad,

I totally understand every single word you have just said !! from your heart aswell ;)

It's a mssive decission to liquidate steelz & items you have strived to aquire over several months , then suddenly realise that the challenge no longer appeals to you for anymore due to pre determing Factors :- steelbooking .

I have to point out , that I was very much like you Nick, & first started to Collect DvD steelz (which I still have :emb: ) which inevatably lead to Blu-Ray steel Books.

I did Collect whatever I wanted and some , & probably had every worth Collecting up to pre late 2012 bar the TW steelz that most of them still Illude me :hilarious:!!

only a few guys actually know what steelz I actually have in my Collection & tbh; I am actually embarrased about it now !! I have started to Liquidate up to about 70 steelz in the last 2 weeks , just Via Evil Bay & to close guys on here !! and will keep doing so untill I have a vertualy stomped out most of which has no significance to me or my likes what so ever !!

Its no longer a thrill for me to precure steelbooks that are gonna cost more than my Car is worth :hilarious: , yes its a Joke where the Hobby has ended up, but its the truth .. its bassically down to "how much money do you have?" and you can have allmost every thing then EEK! ~ exceptfor a few steelz that I know only a few Ninja's possess  and 99% of these guys , will never possess these :D so they can stick there Captain Americas up thier Back side :hilarious:

Another anoying factor now is that , there is too many New "Collectors"now that instantly whant all the rare steelz !! WTF ?? & not enough Steelz to go around !! this is partly the Distributors/Manufactures faults..

So, I take my hat off to you son :scat: & you Did it your way  and I am soo glad that you stuck most of your steelz on Evil bay , so at least some of the New guys can have the Chance to own some thing nice :scat:

Good Luck on your travells Nick , you Da man !!

Its an interesting steel. To collectors or those in the know its status is legendary, but to the average person its an art house film that they've never heard of. Its certainly rarer than an IM FS or even a T2 2.0 but I don't think its as easy to sell. I'd love to see my auction fetch anywhere near that but it isn't looking likely!

some one would give thier Children for it !! others would stop at $250 - $300 ??

I personally dont own 1 , and probably will never be able to afford 1:emb:

i would think so , thats chipvideos listing

Is the Blu Steel look, Chip? :D

I am still not convinced that WOTW is worth 29 quid. Smell something fishy with the bids.

I can tell you there was nothing wrong and no fishy business with the bids. People know that I send the best quality and I have a ton of repeat buyers.

You gotta remember folks, it's the holiday season.

My three rules.

1) People will overspend for a collectible item.
2) People that normally don't buy are looking for one for their favorite collector.
3) Things sell that you normally wouldn't expect to.

It's the most magical and exciting part of the year. :scat:
