So, we have the "Fake" and "Steelbook Price Drop" thread, but we don't yet have the thread where you post listings with "crazy" prices for Steelbooks. If you see any, post them here and have fun debating. As per forum rules, please remain respectful with each other-one person's "high price", could be another's "deal of a lifetime" score. Enjoy! :scat:

Please keep discussion to Ebay and other retailers, not private sellers.

There is another seller also asking for similar price !

Yeah, and he listed Terminator Korea for $399.00 :hilarious:, I can only imagine what Socrates will charge EEK!.
It seems that slips are more appreciated than embossing, debossing, or interior artwork. Well, I better hunt down Terminator Korea :hilarious:.

I find it hard to believe that Socrates thinks his prices are reasonable.

I'm sure he doesn't think they're reasonable. It's not really about reasonable. It's about providing rare steelbooks at a premium to those collectors so well-heeled that they don't really worry about price. For them $300 is pocket change, they just want the steelbook without the hassle and fuss of getting into a bidding war. I think he's been pretty savvy in identifying that market and making a business from it.

That said, I'm glad all sellers aren't like that, otherwise I'd never be able to afford anything on eBay, lol. But he's a reliable option for the steelbook hunter with money to burn. As I've said before about this hobby, nothing is really rare, just expensive. Enough cash will buy you anything.

Well said Rob :scat:

he is like a High Class member on here (no names) . and I have to say it , but he is on this forum and or Bluray.com ~ there is now way wat so ever that you manage to get the contacts , the info the logistics of items he is selling from , not being a member of some BluRay forum ??

I do think he is taking the Michael with some of his prices , but hey !! If he can afford to sit on the stock until it sells , he must be well coined up mate ;) this is just a hobby for him on Ebay

The reason I pointed out the high prices is because I didn't think that Jaws Korea or Terminator Korea were "rare". I have a buddy in S. Korea who offered me Jaws KR or if I wanted Terminator KR for retail price. I declined the offer because I am pleased with Jaws JP, & Terminator KR didn't do it for me. These Steelbooks are still available for decent prices, but jacking the prices over $300 is unimaginable. I suppose it's who you know and if they are willing to help. Yes, I do realize scarce Steelbooks demand high prices, but these that recently came out already charging $300 EEK! (these are holy grail prices). If you have $300 dollars as pocket change you are better off bidding on it, you usually win it less for what the seller wants. Though, in the end we value our Steelbooks differently, therefore demand what we think is proper.

True, but then people with huge disposable income often can't be bothered with bidding - it's too much time and fuss and they might lose out. Much quicker and cleaner to just buy the thing, and they won't even know they've spent the money. Sellers have cottoned on to this.

I know one or two people with serious money and it's frightening how they can burn through big bucks without it making the slightest difference to them. For myself - like most here I suspect - I have to look out for good deals, hope to make some nice contacts here and there and get what I can afford. It sucks that I can't compete with wealthier collectors, but then it can sometimes make grabbing something sweet seem even more of a victory! :oohyeah:

Couldn't agree more mate.

Every time I look at this thread I burst out in laughter. It's so duplicitous.

I think starting a The "OMG-the price is high on hi-def.ninja, etc!!!" thread is plausible.

Not going to call anyone out though. It's not my style.
