So, we have the "Fake" and "Steelbook Price Drop" thread, but we don't yet have the thread where you post listings with "crazy" prices for Steelbooks. If you see any, post them here and have fun debating. As per forum rules, please remain respectful with each other-one person's "high price", could be another's "deal of a lifetime" score. Enjoy! :scat:

Please keep discussion to Ebay and other retailers, not private sellers.

Wish I'd logged on a little bit sooner tbh. That was just about the same amount of dough as I've got burning a hole in my pocket!

I'm sure I'll find something else to spend it on ;)

I'll explain.

I tend to be extreme in whatever I do and if I can't do it properly I end up not doing it at all. Work has gone crazy, family demands are high and I simply can't do collecting in the way that I want to - full on. No halfway house.

So, I've taken the decision to quit. I'll keep my Batman collection as thats how the whole thing started but I'm going to try to get some of the money back that I've spent.

I'll still be interested and still be around and will always try to buy any films I actually want in steel but the chase for trades, rare steels etc just can't be sustained and as I said, if I can't do it properly then its time to stop.

Cheers

Nick

Well said.

I been thinking the same thing more and more every day and it gets disappointing to me that you can't get the steels you want due to low quantities or extremely high prices and everyone wants a copy as well so add the competitive factor in to the mix and it diminishes most of the probability of you get your choice steels. Collecting steelbooks remind me of a sport more than a hobby. Thinking about retiring my jersey. But you right if you can't do something to the full extent then what's the point.

Nick, for what it's worth, I am sad to see you quit like this. I have utterly enjoyed corresponding and jibing with you.

I do empathise with you, coz just 2 weeks ago, I kinda felt like it too. Receiving / securing IM FS, MR, IM2 JP and a few other grails had a cathartic effect on me, and made a conscious (but not painful) decision to slow down, released a ton of pre-orders, liquidated a number of steels at cost and minimise my activity on HDN (as if anyone noticed)...

So whilst I decided to release the accelerator pedal (coz no one can sustain the intensity of chasing grails weeks, no, months on end), you chose a infinitely more drastic path. You pulled the handbrake, and my heart goes out to you for doing it, mate.

And darn, I thought I can still nick TDK FNAC from you...no chance there, eh? Have a good one, mate, and catch you soon on HDN...

Sorry, mods, if this has nothing to do with the thread.

So sorry to hear that mate. Always sad to hear when a collector packs it in for whatever reason.

I can understand your reasons, as I'm the same. Not satisfied with just the one version. There is no middle ground or satisfaction just buying a few here and there. The problem is this steelbook collecting lark is like any other hobby. It costs a shitload of money if you're a hardcore collector. I've only been doing it for a few months now and have had to compensate in others ways to fund the habit.

Good to hear that you'll still be around though. :scat:

Your quest for every copy of TDKR has become legendary on here. Every time I see a new release, I think poor OxfordNick. :hilarious:

Hope you get a shitload of money for your steels. ;)

I can relate. It's kind of an all or nothing game. I'm on the brink of pulling the plug myself, and have been for a while. It's just a case of deciding when and how to draw the line. It's not easy.

Good luck with your auctions!

One ironman fs bids out for 1000+ then all of a sudden 2 more come out of thin air. What a bunch of followers.

Nick, it was good to have shared this hobby with you (and with others). I hope we see you here from time to time in the future. Good luck, mate!

I am not an all or nothing guy......which may not be a good thing. :p I do not think that this hobby needs to be all or nothing too. Having some grails is good enough for me.

Incidentally, was there an IM FS which went for a high price recently? Does anyone have the link?
