James DeMonaco Writing & Directing Again :)

I enjoyed both movies, specially the sequel and I'm glad to hear a third one is in development to take the story further.

Here's what Firstshowing.net reports:

purge2-streetgang-tsr.jpg

Following this past summer's sequel The Purge: Anarchy, a third round of chaos is being planned. Deadlinereports Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes are now developing The Purge 3. The second film in the series has pulled in over $108 million worldwide, improving on the first film's $89 million take in 2013, and that means the franchise has potential. James DeMonaco, writer and director of the first two films, will be back in the same capacity this time. More than likely, the third film will shakethings up even more, especially after what happened at the end of the second film this year. More below!

In a storyline that wasn't really shown off much in the trailers, Michael K. Williams plays a militant activist out to show that the government is using The Purge to keep the lower class down by sending troops out to execute the impoverished on the streets. They seem to score a small victory at the end of the second film, and it'll be interesting to see if there's fallout from this latest Purge, and if the fight goes all the way to Washington, putting those who aren't normally in danger at risk of becoming victims of the annual consequence-free crime spree.

Frank Grillo to Return for The Purge 3.

Variety reports:

Frank Grillo is in final negotiations to return to star in Universal, Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes’ “The Purge 3.”

“The Purge” franchise creator James DeMonaco is back to write and direct the latest sequel. Jason Blum is producing along with Sebastien Lemercier and Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes banner.

The films take place in a future where one day each year all crime is legalized for a 12-hour period, described by the government as “the Purge.” In “Anarchy,” Grillo played Sergeant, a man who seeks revenge on the night of the Purge, only to get pulled into protecting a group of people who are left without shelter as purging begins.

The pic is set to bow on July 1, 2016. “The Purge,” released in 2013, was Blumhouse’s first production under its first-look deal with Universal. The sci-fi thriller, starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey and set in the year 2022, became a major success with $89 million at the global box office on a production budget of $3 million.

Scheduling hurdles with his DirecTV show “Kingdom” threatened Grillo’s ability to reprise his role. Insiders now say, however, that the issues have been worked out. Grillo can wrap the current season of “Kingdom,” which premieres this fall, as well as shoot “The Purge 3,” which will begin filming in September...
