Already bought the U.K. Amaray release from 2007 and the Australian Amaray release from 2009 a while ago (and they weren't cheap) but this steelbook looks lovely and a 30th Anniversary edition (13/9/2016) is MOST welcome as those releases had "issues"

Out of interest, what "issues?"

Certainly no need to pay over 20 quid for this but it sure was a long time a comin'.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reported issues with the previous U.K. Amaray edition was more to do with the lack of Special Features (as in none!) and that is where the Australian edition outshone it. On the other side of the coin I've read that there were reported playback problems with some parts of the AU disc on U.S. players.

U.K. 2007 EDITION (Metrodome):-
Aspect Ratio:
1.78:1
Picture Format:
1080p 24fps MPEG-2
Soundtrack(s):
English DTS 5.1
English Dolby Digital 5.1
English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo

Notes:
Remastered transfer.
Also encoded for region A.
"Scramble City" episode is in Japanese with yellow BURNT-IN English subtitles.

Appears to be "region free" though one website gives a "locked" outcome for Region C.
OVERALL: A DRAW BETWEEN THE AUSTRALIAN RELEASE FOR THE EXTRAS AND THE U.K. RELEASE FOR THE DTS TRACK
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This 30th Anniversary Edition does away with any previous "issues" and there are Extras now on a U.K. edition :-

Tons of interesting stuff around about this re-release and some of it is here for anyone interested:-

Shout! Factory Brings Home Transformers – The Movie 30th Anniversary Edition
Shout! Factory and Hasbro Studios announced a strategic distribution collaboration to bring the iconic 1986 animated feature, Transformers – The Movie, to the home entertainment marketplace in the U.S. and Canada. The full-length animated adventure boasts the voice talent of Orson Welles in his final role and an all-star voice cast that includes Peter Cullen, Eric Idle, Casey Kasem, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Robert Stack and Frank Welker. The announcement was made today by Shout! Factory’s founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos; and Hasbro’s Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer Stephen Davis.

The multi-year alliance provides Shout! Factory with exclusive home entertainment packaged media (Blu-ray and DVD) and select digital rights to Hasbro’s Transformers – The Movie for home entertainment releases in North America. In honor of the 30th anniversary of Transformers – The Movie, the beloved animated feature will be newly remastered and transferred in HD from the original 35mm elements. A full-range of bonus content and collectible packaging are currently in development. Shout! Factory plans an aggressive rollout of Transformers – The Movie 30th Anniversary Edition on September 13, 2016.

“The Transformers franchise has been part of American popular culture for more than 30 years, developing into one of the most recognizable brands around the globe,” said Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President of Hasbro. “’Transformers – The Movie’ played a huge role in the brand’s early success, laying the foundation for major motion pictures, several successful TV series, clothing and apparel, toys and much more. We are thrilled to work with Shout! Factory to deliver the original movie to fans in a completely remastered HD experience.”

“’Transformers – The Movie’ is a highly sought-after animated feature, boasting a large fan following and consumer interest. On its 30th anniversary, we look forward to celebrating this film by bringing it to North America on Blu-ray for the first time. Having worked closely with Hasbro Studios on top brands like animated series ‘Transformers Robots in Disguise,’ ‘G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero,’ ‘Transformers Prime,’ ‘My Little Pony,’ ‘My Little Pony Equestria Girls’ movies and more, this is incredibly exciting and important news for us,” said Melissa Boag, Senior Vice President of Kids & Family Entertainment at Shout! Factory. “We look forward to bringing ‘Transformers – The Movie,’ featuring all-new HD transfer with stunning packaging and great extras to fans and on family home entertainment shelves.”

Yes, looks just about acceptable but disappointed that a full gloss finish was not used here to bring those colours to life - possibly not fair of me to comment atm as it's still shrinkwrap sealed which as we know can give a cloudy appearance when photographed.
(Studios could maybe consider that classic animation and glossy steelbooks do not have to be strangers :))
Nevertheless, a MOST welcome steelbook for buyers not around at the time to pick up the early U.K. / AUS Blu-rays at sensible prices . . . and this is probably the very best edition we will ever get

Can't see any sign of a couple of the Extras from one of the DVD editions:-

(1) The `AUTOBOT MATRIX OF KNOWLEDGE' featuring trivia and fun facts about the movie itself, the Transformers brand, and the pop culture references in which Transformers has been spoofed/tributed. Approximately one hundred fun facts show up on screen throughout the movie. Many of the factoids were provided by fans through a special DVD site created by Sony BMG to solicit input--marking the first time that the huge Transformers fan base has ever been asked to participate in the creation of a Transformers home entertainment release.

(2) ORIGINAL COMMERCIALS for the toy line and movie.

Mine arrived today from Amazon, a different finish to the US version, no spot gloss but a nice gloss all over for the steelbook (more like a semi gloss, same as the US steelbook for the spot effect), the UK one looks less metallic looking which improves the steelbook. Also the spine just has the title on it, no logos, a real nice addition for a classic, wasn't expecting it to look this different but in a good way.

Edit: Also what I like about this release is their using a nice 1/4 slip card, no hole at the bottom, have to say well done to Manga on this release and Shout Factory for allowing the UK release.

Here are some pics best I can do with this old camera.
