Serious question. Why do collectors have issues with futurepaks/metalpaks?
Is it the spine joints?
Break easily?
I don't mind them to be honest. One thing I do like about them is the weight. They feel noticeable in the hand.
Chonky.
It's a stupid prejudice me thinks, as steelbooks are the lowest, worst form of metal packaging, with the least 'metal' in them.
They just bullied everyone off the market.
Metalpaks had metal hinges, later changed to accommodate for an even opening, replacing the hinge with plastic, but still surdier, than 'steel'books' have.
Then there were Ironpaks, which are even better, having a metal spine, not a plastic one with a sticker, like 'steel'books, and metal hinges, although its metal rods are held by plastic holes.
The best of all is Viva Metal Case, as it's all metal - spine, hinges, and even rods are held in metal holders - it won't crack in half with a little pressure in the mail, like plastbooks do.
Here's an old photo of them all (if I knew I'd be using it for 15 years, I'd have made a better one...)
Plastbook on top, then changed Metalpak/futurepak with plastic hinges.
Brooklyn's Finest is an older variant, that doesn't open 180⁰, with a single metal rod going through the spine.
Avatar is the best, Viva Metal Case type, and John Carter at the bottom is the Ironpak.
But of course there's plenty of various metal packaging, and I like them all:
