Thanks for the explanation bigrob. I suppose the steel might contain the 2 BD discs instead. I'll wait as long as I can to see if any updates get posted here, I suppose.

Seems idiotic to leave out the two other cuts and I'll be cancelling unless I can be sure it'll contain all three.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to get clarification so that we can make informed choices

Secondly, this is very disappointing news. I've been looking forward to this since it was announced months ago but I'll be cancelling in favour of the 3 disc set (via a more reputable retailer).

If this steel turns out to be really nice then I might come back for it if/when it gets discounted and swap the discs in from the 3 disc set. At least I should know what to expect in terms of cheap finishes and scratches by that point!

Not good news :wtf:
but I do have both this steelbook and the amazon 3 Disc release on order
I expect lot of orders will get cancelled but it sort of explains why the steelbook was cheaper than the 3 Disc version

They should have just released the steelbook with 2 Blu-ray discs instead

When will studio canal and other distributors learn don't leave out extras or in this case drop 2 versions of the film
They could easily have just put the other Blu-ray in the steelbook and drop the dvd

I think they should do this now replace the dvd with the second Blu-ray which has the directors cut and theatrical cut or offer a free replacement Blu-ray disc
They could delay the release by a couple of weeks if needed

Zavvi or StudioCanal have made a mistake in description of goods for sale

The UK Theatrical Cut

DVD Special Features:
The Final Cut

The Restoration of The Wicker Man

This is a bad mistake and item is not as described under sale of goods act they should correct this straight away by removing the dvd and replacing with second Blu-ray

Ive had this on preorder since day 1 and have been looking forward to one of my all time favourite films in a great package ...but now Im confused as to which one to buy... So the steelbook only contains the final cut? 1 Bluray with the final cut and extras, 1 dvd with the final cut and extras not as many as on the Blu but basically a duplicate of the Blurays contents, so a disk I'll never use.....

Amazon still have the 3 disk versions contents listed as...

• Disc 1
The final Cut
The Directors Cut with commentary
The UK theatrical cut
Making of Audio Commentary short film

• Disc 2
Interview with Robin Hardy
The music of The Wicker Man featurette
Worshipping The Wicker Man - Famous fans featurette
The restoration of The Wicker Man featurette
Burnt Offering: The Cult of The Wicker Man documentary written by Mark Kermode;
Interview with Christopher Lee & Robin Hardy (1979)
Trailer

• Disc 3
Soundtrack

so apparently 3 versions of the film on one disk...so are Amazons details wrong too?? should disk 2 have the theatrical and directors cuts instead of them being on disk 1? It does seem odd that disk 2 only contains the extras unless they are very extensive

Im very tempted to ditch the steelbook ..even though I do love the artwork and go for the 3 disk version ..even more so as Forbidden planet are selling copies of the 3 disk set signed by Robin Hardy for £30

Those were the details supplied by StudioCanal when they announced the results of the facebook search for the missing footage. Obviously these things can change but it really should be updated if it has, otherwise it's very misleading.

I've just forwarded studiocanal the amazon link after reading that so thanks for pointing that out. Their marketing team are looking into it now.

as I said a few posts back, I have the actual discs in my possession and disc one only contains the final cut and bonus features. the second BD in the 3 disc set contains a restored 1080p version of the UK theatrical cut and a 576i SD version of the directors cut which is exactly the same as the DVD version that has been released previously. The steelbook is a double play edition which replaces the second BD with a DVD version of the final cut.

We understand that it is a bit annoying as with the steelbook your not getting the complete package but in all honesty this has been the norm for most steelbook releases recently (catalogue Paramount & Warner titles for example).

At least we've spotted this before street date ninjas and have done the correct thing and reported it to the studio rather that it turning up on your doorstep then finding out. now that would of been annoying wouldn't it.

it's not the ideal situation but on the plus side, this steelbook release of The Wicker Man HAS got the HDN seal on it with community approved interior artwork which does make it special to us.

This is a bad mistake and item is not as described
they should correct this straight away by removing the dvd and replacing with second Blu-ray
Zavvi need to get Studiocanal to correct this before release to customers and provide product as advertised

I wonder what Zavvi have in their agreement with SC for this. It's normal to leave out the second BD but there's a big difference between leaving out documentaries and leaving out the previous cuts of the film, certainly in the eyes of many customers. Perhaps Zavvi are as frustrated as we are in this case.

Amazon have updated disc details
Blu-ray Disc 1
•The Final Cut
•Burnt Offering: The Cult of The Wicker Man documentary written by Mark Kermode
•Worshiping The Wicker Man - Famous fans featurette
•The Music of The Wicker Man featurette
•Interview with Robin Hardy
•Interview with Christopher Lee & Robin Hardy (1979)
•Restoration comparison
•Trailers
Blu-ray Disc 2
•UK Theatrical Cut
•Directors Cut (with Audio Commentary)
•Making of Audio Commentary short film
Blu-ray Disc 3
•Soundtrack

We now need Zavvi and StudioCanal to correct the Steelbook release to supply both
Blu-ray Disc 1 and Blu-ray Disc 2 instead of the DVD
so customers get as described
The final Cut
The Directors Cut
The UK theatrical cut

As advertised contents for sale on zavvi and also facebook

Blu-Ray Special Features:
The Final Cut
The Director's Cut with Commentary
The UK Theatrical Cut

If they don't fix this release the steelbook will be be in breach of sale of goods act if steelbook it not released as described as advertised

They need to fix this as its not acceptable if not corrected by either correcting its website to say correct contents as in item for sale and must also inform any customer who has placed an order of change of content they had originally advertised for sale
If this does not happen then they must supply customers the second Blu-ray disc free of charge after any customer has paid for and item is dispatched

This could get very messy for Zavvi or StudioCanal if not corrected as all customers who placed an order would have rights under the sale of goods act

Can staff from Hi Def Ninja contact Zavvi or StudioCanal to get this corrected before its released to customers as if its not corrected then anyone who's placed an order and then receives there order can demand a replacement disc with correct contents as they would have been sold an item as not as described

I just noticed Zavvi have removed all reference to The Wicker Man Steelbook from there facebook website

Your interpretation of the Sale of Goods Act in incorrect. If an item does not match the description, customers have the right to return it for a full refund. They do not have the right to demand 'missing items' that were originally advertised, but are not included in the final product.

i'm pretty sure that this only kicks into effect once money has been exchanged, which sadly that it hasn't since the item hasn't shipped plus I think it also refers to the actual contents kisted on the actual packaging instead of an e-stores listing because if that was the case, Amazon would be in trouble as their specs are 50/50 most of the time regarding tech specs

but to be honest, we're always getting shafted in the UK for bonus stuff. Disney leaving ENTIRE bonus discs off their sets (Finding Nemo, Incredibles) missing features (Avengers had the Joss Whedon commentary missing)

and the rumours that bonus features will be left off the Man of Steel UK set isn't making me too happy at the mo

I wasn't suggesting you could get a refund before you paid for it! My point was that at no stage can you demand that Zavvi sends you a disc from another edition of the film.

The Sale of Goods Act does not require retailers to do this because it would be totally impractical and unworkable. As you rightly say, retailers' product descriptions are frequently wrong, and manufacturers often change the content prior to release.
