The director recently announced that his 1997 blockbuster hit, Titanic, will be re-released for audiences in 3D in April of 2012 - on the 100 year anniversary of the luxury liner's sinking.

exactly. They are gonna over do 3D movies before it even gets going. Plus half the movies i have seen in 3D would have been just as good with out. Avatar is the only movie i was amazed at.

Because OVER HALF of the movies you're seeing in 3D weren't shot in 3D. They were converted later.

According to a report of the "Hollywood Reporter" is the 3D version of "Titanic" by April 2012 launch in cinemas. The magazine maintains it is just possible that "Titanic" is not only the 100th Anniversary of the sinking on 15 April 2012 but for Valentine's Day 2012 as a 3D movie in the cinema will come already. Together with the first "Star Wars" part in 3D could be Titanic 3D "Thus in the spring of 2012, a race to deliver cinema-goers."

Since "Titanic" has not yet released on Blu-ray disc is still open whether similar to "Star Wars" in 2011 a 2-D version of "Titanic" was released on Blu-ray disc, or only after the film in 3D run in the cinemas.

The 3D conversion of "Titanic" is according to the report expected to cost between 10 to 15 million U.S. dollars. This is in relation to the cost of a new film, which today when blockbusters are usually in the hundreds of millions, relatively little money, so that when success of "Titanic" at the box office certainly in the next few years, a few other great classics of return to film history in a 3D version on the screen are.

Per Comingsoon:

Twentieth Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment jointly announced today that James Cameron's Titanic will be re-released worldwide on April 6, 2012.

The release, which marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic setting sail (April 10th), will present the film in 3D for the first time ever.

Written, directed and produced by Cameron, Titanic is the second-highest grossing movie of all time. It is one of only three films to have received a record 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director; and launched the careers of stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

The long in the works 3D conversion is being overseen by Cameron and his Lightstorm producing partner Jon Landau who produced the hit movie.

Said Cameron, "There's a whole generation that's never seen 'Titanic' as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. And this will be 'Titanic' as you've never seen it before, digitally re-mastered at 4K and painstakingly converted to 3D. With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike."

"This new presentation of Paramount's top-grossing film is particularly special because 2012 is the 100th anniversary of our studio. Paramount has had the pleasure of introducing audiences to some of the all-time classics of cinema during that century of moviemaking and we cannot think of a better way to mark the occasion than with this re-release of 'Titanic,'" said Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures.

Commented Fox Filmed Entertainment Chairmen and CEOs, Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman: "Our 30-plus year relationship with Jim Cameron and Lightstorm has been enormously rewarding, from 'Aliens' to 'Avatar,' and the global phenomenon of 'Titanic' remains one of the greatest sources of pride in our history. We are pleased to allow a new generation of audiences to experience the film in its brilliant digital restoration in 3D."

Has anyone seen this yet? I was just wondering how the 3D conversion was. I didn't think Phantom Menace looked good when real life characters were involved, so I was curious as to how this would turn out.

I saw 'Titanic 3D' last night and thought the post conversion was really good. I was a little worried, as I have seen bad post conversion, too. But since Cameron supervised the team that did it, I was fairly confident it would not be disappointing. If you're a fan of the film, see it again-imo it was still as grand (and beautifully tragic) as it was originally...

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the timeless love story this Valentine’s Day Weekend.

Titanic returns to the big screen in remastered 4K 3D from February 10, 2023.
