A 2 hour feature film before it's compressed down is about 5 Terabytes.
So, yes- it would have higher fidelity with a much better bitrate on 100GB disc.
Disc size isn't about the length of the film- it's about Fidelity.
(Sure, plenty of movies have looked fine on 66GB- But they would probably look even better at 100GB)
It's about compression, more than anything. The longer the film would typically equate to the larger the source data file. It isn't usual for a 2hr film alone to receive the 100gb disc treatment, and compression encodes are rarely criticised for it. It'd be nice, but it isn't necessary. Plus, as I said, Disney have only used 100gb discs for Cameron films, all of which are much longer than Tombstone, so I'm not sure why you expected it.

I note this because most labels are not doing 66GB discs anymore. Shout, Kino, Criterion, etc.....All 100GB discs now. (With occasional outliers).
Kino is even re-encoding their older Blu-rays that were on 25GB to 50GB discs. Less compression is always better.

That is great news. Hopefully 100gb discs become the norm. It's about time.

Most boutique labels. That's the key word there. These labels actually care about the package they're putting together. Your typical major studio does not and will only typically use a 100gb disc if compression becomes an issue due to the size of the content. It'd be nice if they adapted, too, so 66gb can become a thing of the past, like 25gb blu-rays.

I don't want to hijack the thread but a quick redirect from a Facebook confirmation.
Friends.
It's officially over at HMV.

I thought I'd place here as this is one of the latest steelbook releases.
Good whilst it lasted.

They should really instigate some sort of loyalty scheme in replacement imo. Should have been like that anyway.

Surprised they kept it going as long as they did to be fair.. or put some kind of checks in place

I'm sure they were quite aware of what was going on. Even without "official" referrals, to have collectors continually buying from them as opposed to Amazon or Zavvi, was a good thing surely. Yes, "new" customer number statistics may have been skewed but the money was still being spent albeit with discounts. I don't believe that "real world" new customers would have spent anywhere near what collectors do on a weekly basis. If they don't instigate some sort of loyalty incentive what's to stop a heap ton of buyers migrating elsewhere?
Can't help but think there's no coincidence that it's ended right at the end of the current UK tax year.
Anyway. It was fun. Now, Zavvi tend to deliver earlier than HMV :naughty:

Oops , this could be my fault I'm sorry guys! :( I made up friends because I don't have any, oh God! Crying over all my discounted Steelbooks.

We all knew it was coming, amazing that it lasted as long as it did. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it, it felt mandatory for every new release but that led me to being very indiscriminate with my purchases and that's a bad thing.

They should definitely replace it with a loyalty scheme, doesn't have to be 20% but HMV have been the most consistent retailer for me so I'd rather they got the business and allowing the 20% discount to run for so long they clearly wanted the increased sales, why stop now?

Not that they can send to me anyway but something like arrow for you guys where more you spend you have credit for later spends better than nothing and maybe throw in some sales.

I managed to use it once ! Some nice chap on here sent me the link thingy, I got a nice 20% off discount for last night in soho 4k steelbook. I tried to send my Mrs the friend link but I think hmv must have passed my details to the fbi, kgb, cid and Tesco security because could I hell get another code.
Mustn't grumble tho.

UHD - left . . . . Blu-ray - right

Blind buy for me but the new 4k transfer looks great. US steel is gloss. Hopefully same here.
