I always get excited about end-of-the-year lists as soon as it's December, so I thought, "Why not get an early start on it this year?!"

So, let's chat! Ahead of showcasing our Top 10 lists at the end of the month/beginning of January, let's discuss what we've been enjoying so far, which films won't be in our Top 10 lists though they would've been close, which December flicks that we think may make our lists, and so on!

I'm looking forward to some awesome discussions! :D

This year certainly had a lot of surprises. Alpha was a stunning film. It's a shame that never got a 4K UHD release.

Bad Samaritan was probably my biggest surprise. I didn't think anything of that film and then I watched it, and wow. It's SO good! David Tennant is an amazing villain.

And Unsane is so cool in the sense that the entire thing was shot on an iPhone. Let that sink in. Just shows that you can do anything with your phone these days.

2018 Has been an amazing year in terms of movies for me personally. There have been two movies this year I gave a 5/5 rating and 6 movies I gave a 4.5/5 rating, which is the highest number of 4.5+ ratings in a single year for me.
Four movies that didn't quite make my top 10, but that I would like to mention are First Reformed, Gutland, A Quiet Place and Thoroughbreds. I thought those were all great, but I saw ten other movies that I liked just a little bit better.

There are still quite a few movies that have the potential to make my top 10 that I still would like to see before the end of the year, but most of them I'll probably have to catch up on later because of time constraints or release dates here in The Netherlands.
Those include Roma, Bad Times at the El Royale, Tigers are Not Afraid, Zoe, Long Day's Journey into Night, High Life, The Guily, The Favourite, Madeline's Madeline, Piercing, The Legend of the Demon Cat and Climax.

I'm doing something different this year.

Each year, I try to distinguish between films that I enjoy (could be something poorly reviewed) and films that are really good (usually award contenders). The films that I really enjoy often get bumped out of my Top 10 for the ones that are obviously better made, but not necessarily more enjoyable.

So, here's my tentative Top 10 list featuring films that I have unapologetically, genuinely enjoyed most:
  1. Mission: Impossible - Fallout
  2. Avengers: Infinity War
  3. A Quiet Place
  4. Rampage
  5. Upgrade
  6. Black Panther
  7. Skyscraper
  8. Ready Player One
  9. I Kill Giants
  10. Hereditary
Let's see if this changes much through December when I some more anticipated films. :)

Oh, by the way, #11 and #12 go to Bad Samaritan and Sierra Burgess is a Loser -- two films that are excellent and incredibly underrated.

So what would you guys say is a good cut off for making your top 10 list???

Ideally it should be tonight because 2018 is over. haha
But I normally like to take a couple weeks in Jan because its a slower time of the year and I can catch up on a bunch that I missed.

Thoughts? What is everyone else doing?

I usually do a list now, and then a final updated one in March after I see the rest of what I missed in 2018.
