It states on the site 3hours of extras

So it does. That's my bad. At least I can skip buying the 2d steelbook now.

Honestly. I don't know why anyone is surprised. Paramount pulled a similar stunt with Dark of the Moon, where the 3d version wasn't released in the UK until a long time after the original release.

Ok so Paramount are ignoring the BDA rules. Is there a link where said rules are outlined so I have something to use when contacting Paramount and ES?

(I know it's probably not ES's fault, but they're selling it)

From the BDA Press Release dated 17th December, 2009, announcing the final 3D blu-ray specification. The full text of the press release can be found in the news section for that date, in the other forum.

"Regarding compatibility, the specification supports playback of 2D discs in forthcoming 3D players and can enable 2D playback of Blu-ray 3D discs on the installed base of Blu-ray Disc Players currently in homes around the world."

As stated in my previous post, the original intention of the specification was to enable backwards compatibility of both discs and hardware. The original 3D releases were also 2D compatible and those released subsequently which weren't, got round it by including a separate 2D disc.

Half the stock maybe gone, but how many purchasers don't realise there's no 2D disc? Wouldn't be at all surprised if there's a bunch of cancellations.

I think I may order this in the hope that Paramount reconsider their decision and decide to include a 2D disc too.

Is anybody really surprised at what Paramount are trying to pull here??

I am an avid steelbook collector, i have close to 250 in my collection, but only films that i LOVE!!!!!

I am openly amazed at some of you guys here who will buy a steelbook because it IS a steelbook, regardless of the film contained within!!:wtf:

Paramount know this...so let's see!!!!

Paramount Offices - Commercial Office Meeting.

"What's next?"

"The Transformers 4 Blu-Ray release Sir"

"Ah yes....a nice little cash cow i believe!!!...right....i WANT...no DEMAND that we release it in as many variations as we can get away with...all those dumbf***s will buy every single copy at overly inflated prices so what are you waiting for people...LET'S DO IT!!!!":thumbs::thumbs:

So £24 for the 3D steelbook, £20 for the 2D steelbook.....total £44 if you want a 2D/3D Transformers film!!! I really think that Paramount are testing the waters here....the film cost a s***load to make...didn't do as well as they expected....so let's screw as much money out of the gullible public as we can!!!!!:mad::mad:

I for one love buying my favourite films in steelbook form...but Paramount are treading a dangerous course here and yes it could well be against the rules that someone laid out in some earlier posts....but honestly will greedy film companies stick to that agreement when they want as much cash from us as possible!!! Then they have the gall to complain when people illegally download their films!!!! RIP-OFF MERCHANTS!!!!

Rant over!!!:angry::angry::angry::angry:

Couple of things I am openly amazed about your post

Avid means with great enthusiasm which I am not really getting here.

Paramount like all other retailers are in business of making money so they are not trying to pull they are retailing

Each collector has the choice what & when to buy no one forces them

I must be in the gullible & dumbf*** category because I also have close to 250 steels in my collection too, well in the double /triple dip section of it anyway.

Relax mate its not worth getting mad over, go & cheer yourself up try some retail therapy :D

Totally get where TonyStark64 is coming from and a good point well made. The trouble is im buying this not only as a SB collector but as a big transformers/robot fan so whilst I dont love the film it ticks lots of boxes in other areas of interest and marketeers will probably realise this

I have read that Paramount are basically flouting strict BDA rules that clearly state that if a 3D disc is offered, a 2D disc MUST also be offered, unless both 2d & 3D version are on the same disc. Disney tried this one and were forced to offer the 2D disc at a reduced price and to offer future releases as 2D /3D combos.
I would recommend contacting Paramount Studios directly. I have email Entertainment Store regarding this.

Just found this.
This came out during discussions for adding 3D to the existing Blu-ray spec. Because the BDA wanted to avoid consumer confusion, they mandated that any Blu-ray 3D disc be playable in 3D or 2D, that the discs themselves were backwards compatible to any player bearing the "Blu-ray" logo. Their point was, you wouldn't want a studio to put out a disc with the Blu-ray logo on it (like the "Oz: The Great and Powerful" disc) and then have someone try to put it in their 2D-only Blu-ray player and not have it work. As far as the BDA is concerned, Blu-ray 3D is not an entirely new and different technology but an option that can be included on Blu-ray discs.

Hi guys.

Firstly please nobody take any offence to my post!! I love collecting my favourite films in steelbook form,,,,

WHAT i do object to is what Paramount are trying to instigate here and what could become a very worrying trend!!

Basically... you want the 2D film sir,,,pay £20!!!...OH! you want the 3D film as well because you have a 3D TV and would like to use that feature!!...absolutely sir!...another £24 please!!!! WOW!!! £44....Thank you so much Paramount...i am forever in your favour!!!!:muted::muted:

FFS:angry::angry:...seriously guys are you saying you want ALL the film companies to go down that route!!! Because they will at the slightest hint they can rip us off!!! Do you all have open-ended wallets or what!!!

To the post above...i totally understand they are in the money making business...what i do object to is their total distain to film buffs, fans, geeks...whatever they want to call us.....AND TOTALLY THINK THEY CAN JUST SIT BACK AND RIP US OFF!!!! Because if Paramount think they can get away with this ALL the other major film distributors will follow suit!!! at the end of the day they don't care about us...all that matters is $$$...£££.....F***ERS!!!!!

:wtf::wtf:

couldn't have said better myself. Take no notice of those accusing you of being grumpy or some such, I read "avid" as being passionate and part of being passionate include not wanting fellow collectors getting screwed over. 3D has NOT taken off as manufacturers would have liked and in some corners is still considered to be a fad - so whilst I still appreciate getting a 3D disc included in my steelbook package (as I may adopt later down the line) I do not appreciate my keen collecting of steelbooks being taken advantage of with this current tactic. Give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile.
Besides, this particular title is bollox anyway :D

Cheers Punker76,

100% with you...this is a very worrying precedent being set!!! I do not have an endless wallet for this tactic!!

At the end of the day revenues for the film companies will suffer i'm sure...totally agree with you on the 3D issue...near enough every f***ing film is released in 3D...just so they can charge extortionate ticket prices!!!!

At the end of the day...people are not f***ing stupid i hope!

Film companies & distributors are just money grabbing f***ers!!!!:grumpy::grumpy:

Paramount UK are breaking BDA Rules on 3D Releases
All 3D Releases must include a 2D version

This can be done in 2 ways
A 3D release must use one of the following methods so customers can watch in 2D
1)Include 3D and 2D on the same disc
2)3D Disc and 2D Disc in same Release

They cant release a 3D only release it must be capable of playing in 2D by using one of the methods above
Yes they have a Release that's 2D only but that's a separate release to 3D Release

All 3D releases must include as part of its release a 2D version included and customers must be provided with this when they buy any 3D Release

Do Paramount UK not understand these BDA rules

It states no 2d disc, doesnt actually state the 3d disc doesnt include 2d. Are we losing tho? Your 3d disc can be watched in 2d by using your tv remote and changing it.

I aint buying 2d steelbook when this version has what i want and is the best looking imo
