I don't see any problem with lack of 2D disc , after release day you can get plenty on ebay for couple quids .
All 3D Blu-ray releases are meant to have a 2D Play option on the Disc itself and if not a separate 2D Disc of the Film has been included so you have the 2D play option
That is why you have been getting a 2D disc with all the other 3D releases

This problem Paramount have caused does not happen with other studios 3D releases (Once with Disney it happened but they never did this again after that mistake and complaints that were made )
It was not an issue until now as all the other studios have made sure all 3D releases were 3D and 2D in same release by having the 2D on the 3D disc or a separate 2D disc was in the release

Most new Blu-ray Players are 3D but not every consumer has a 3DTV so its still a requirement to have all 3D Releases have a 2D play option

If this release was from asia we wouldnt be moaning as much.

British collectors are never satisfied really. Lol

Rather than discussing bda (yawn). Cant we focus on how awesome this steelbook actually looks like. I mean call me stoopid (some have), but this is the steelbook thread and NOT the retailer thread

From all 15 pages of this tread i think 12 is about why theres only the 3D version of the movie and no 2D. Just give It a rest people, you really can't change nothing now. If you have a 3D TV lucky you, If not, you have a option to buy the 2D steelbook also.
Personally I love this, great artwork and I am 100% sure the 3D will be awesome.

it is a nice steelbook, though the back should have had lockdown.

but and tough noogies for the people who have heard it, for 3d only I'll stick with the US BB steelbook for this

I agree wholeheartedly Paul.

Rules are sometimes to be ignored if they are meaningless, but in this case - they aren't!

Paramount are just trying to pull a flanker, and no matter what anyone says, to use a well worn, but apt phrase, they need to play the game!

Does anyone actually no this doesn't play in 2D??????? I have Dredd 3D and Conan 3D, and there's only one disc and it plays in 2D as well as 3D on my pimp Samsung 55in LED 800hz TV

I tried it with the amazing spiderman 2 3d last night and all i had to do was push the 3d button on my remote and it turned the 3d off and i could then watch it in 2d

This really is a very nice steelbook. If it is indeed 'white' (as opposed to silver, like Wolverine), it will be even better. Regarding the 3D - a bit of a shame, but who knows --> maybe things will turn out like the HMV X-Men Days of Future Past ... all that worry over no 3D, but in the end, it includes 3D anyway.

490 left in stock at the moment.
Make that (at the most) 489 left- Just pre ordered. Funny thing is, didn't like this film when I caught it at CineWorld! Maybe I wasn't feeling it at the time so always worth giving it a second try. Plus, this artwork is absolutely epic. Hopefully the 3D only bit will be resolved in due time, we'll know before long (have a 2D TV but a PS3 that plays 3D blu rays so here's hoping there's some way to watch this in 2D...)

^^^^^^^^ Exactly, can we get some official word on this situation?

And those saying "let just stick to talking about the steelbook" - Really??? Let's NOT talk about what's IN the steelbook?.... Ok, yeah, let's not talk about getting totally boned by those taking advantage of what we like to collect - kick-ass and limited versions of films we like. Yep, i actually like to watch the movies i buy, not just stare admiringly at the box it came in. This particular release makes that somewhat difficult.

Nail and head!

I feel like I'm repeating myself and not been heard LOL
Just to clear up some missed important factors Its not about if you have a 3D Blu-ray Player or even a 3D TV
All 3D Blu-Ray Discs have a 2D Version on a 3D Disc as its a requirement of the 3D Specification

What happens is most of the time this 2D code on the 3D Disc is locked by the studio and instead they provide a separate 2D Blu Ray Disc with 3D Blu-ray releases so you still have the option of 2D Playback

This requirement with 3D Releases of 2D Playback is for ability to play on a standard Blu ray Player

3D Blu-ray:
  • You will need a 3D ready Blu-ray player and 3D HDTV to see the full effect
  • Most recent Blu-ray players are 3D ready, and some can be made 3D ready with a firmware update if they contain the right technology needed to play 3D. Check the manufacturer’s website for details
  • PS3s are able to play Blu-ray 3D discs, but cannot output full HD sound at the same time as the 3D effect
  • Blu-ray 3D movies can play on non-3D ready machines, but only in 2D. Many manufacturers lock the 3D version for these machines and provide a separate ordinary Blu-ray disc

If the Transformers Age of Extinction 3D Disc has the 2D code unlocked then all is fine and there would be no need for a separate 2D Disc

I have Contacted Paramount UK about Transformers: Age of Extinction 3D Releases and asked them why does it not have 2D Playback and is this correct information
I have asked them to provide 2D ability with this release if they are not planning to unlock the 2D code of the 3D Disc
I will let you know their reply

So this thread does not get to much about the lack of 2D playback in the 3D Release can we all wait to hear official reply from Paramount UK

Thanks
Paul

Has anyone spoke to entertainment store, maybe they could confirm if this is backwards compatible or has a 2D encode on the same disc?

I emailed,ES 3 days ago, still awaiting a reply.
I emailed Entertainment Store and Paramount Pictures UK on Friday but have yet to receive a reply. I also contacted Paramount Pictures UK on Facebook but received a stock standard reply: Hi Ronnie, sorry to see you're upset. We have passed your details onto the appropriate team members to make sure they are aware of this.
