Why doesn't everyone just chill and wait to see what's on the disc? Internet -> want it now generation.

And hey, this is a SteelBook forum, not a movie forum, so some people are here for the SteelBook. You can pick up the movie (any version you want) for next to nothing in an Amaray after a few weeks.

I'm guessing it's because collectors are paying a premium for the new release disc inside. A premium for a disc you can't watch. I think it's understandable for collectors to be a little peeved about that.

Well it is a shame that there is 2 sesperate releases of this gor 2D/3D and understand the uproar regarding it, either way I think I'll order both and keep which ever I like best and sell on the empty steelbook or keep the ES exclusive and buy the 2D amaray cheap in a few months time in cex.

Maybe because some people actually open their steelbooks to watch the movie within instead of just leaving it sealed?

I know, shocking right?

I had similar reply from ES, I also asked if they knew what the bonus features would be.

Hi,
Thank you for your email.
I can confirm that this item contains only 3D discs so will only be playable on a 3d compatible T.V. Unfortunately we are unable to confirm what the exact content on the bonus features will include at present.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you require any further assistance.
Regards,

So if the content is in 2D, which is a logical premise, then this would mean you could watch the bonus features but not the main feature on a normal Blu-ray player!

The 3 Hours of extras are on a separate Blu-ray Disc that's a standard Blu-ray Disc

Received this reply from ES.

You're barking up the wrong tree. I open every one of my Steels to watch, so don't know where you are going with that comment.

My point is, if you have been collecting for any length of time, you would know that prices drop like a stone, esp. in the UK. This will likely be a Black Friday 5 GBP title by November, and you can scoop up as many 2D Blu-ray copies as you want by then, if not sooner.

Besides, even though the 3D disc is included, I don't think it is definitive to say that it won't play 2D, just as UNDERWORLD AWAKENING and GHOST RIDER did.

But if Paramount are saying it contains 3d disc only, then they are implying it does not play 2d,, which breaches the rules, as no matter whether you can pick one up for 50p, the 2d version should be available alongside the 3d one in the first place!

I don't think it is definitive to say that it won't play 2D, just as UNDERWORLD AWAKENING and GHOST RIDER did.
The problem is that this movie is Paramount, while Underworld Awakening and Ghost Rider: spirit of vengeance are not: Paramount 3D releases have always been dual discs (just like WB, and Disney), one BD3D and one BD2D, and the BD3D disc can not be played in 2D players. Underworld awakening is a Sony release, and almost all Sony 3D releases are single disc, compatible with both 2D and 3D payers.
Maybe, for this movie, Paramount will release a 3D movie with a single disc, compatible with 2D and 3D player, we can not know it, but they never did that before

That's great but I don't really want to spend £27.99 or more on this film, £22.99 is already pushing it. The retail price of the Steelbook (like any new release) includes a premium for getting the film on home release. If you can't watch it and have to wait a few months, then you're effectively throwing money away.

I received this from Entertainment Stores and it states it won't play in 2D.
Hi,
Thanks for your email.

I can confirm that this item comes with only 3D Blu-ray DVD and will only be playable on a 3D capable TV.

Thank you for your patience with this matter, and please do not hesitate to let me know if there’s anything else I can help with.
