I must be going blind! Where does it say BLU-RAY 3d + BLU-RAY + BLU-RAY BONUS DISC?

Here is what I'm seeing...

They have updated the artwork for the Standard 3D Blu ray it was not that the artwork they had this morning is the one I had posted

The original image It had 3D Blu ray + Blu ray + Bonus Disc ( that Means 3 Discs)
New one below

But they now have updated it to show only 2 discs

That makes it worse as if don't include the 2D blu ray even with the standard release
I will be contacting BBC Watchdog but will wait until I see the final product is released before I Act just in case it turns out it does have 2D Blu Ray

My reply from ES

Hi David,

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that this item has been released by Paramount as containing 1 3D Blu-ray disc and 1 3D Blu-ray bonus disc so is only playable with a 3D compatible T.V.

We are aware of the contradiction with the rules of the Blu-ray Disc Association and are chasing up Paramount to inquire why this is.

Thank you for your patience with this matter, and please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Regards,

Nathaniel

Fair enough if the image changed.

Contacting the BBC seems a bit extreme though. Are you seriously that annoyed about a 'missing' disc?

Yes because they are meant to as does all other film studios abide by providing a 2D Blu ray with all their 3D Releases or have the 2D code unlocked on the 3D Disc

Edit they now have just updated the Artwork again to remove the older image just after I posted this and all photos show the new one
So they must read this web forum
I have kept a screenshot of the original from this morning so I still have it

I not letting them get away with this period now so they only have one option but to include a 2D version with all UK 3D releases so all customers get what their entitled to

Seriously mate just let it rest - this steelbook doesn't include a 2D blu-ray and neither does the standard 3D amaray release. No matter how much you post on here or Facebook or other forums it won't change that. Just get your lawyers to sue Paramount in the BDA courts or wherever you imagine what Paramount is doing is illegal and be done with it.

I am so glad to get this artwork released in UK that I don't care even if they stick just a DVD inside it!!!

It looks like the imax version is not going to be released in the UK so I will have to import the US version anyway!

I wasnt going to get involved in all this 2D/3D will it or wont it etc, im buying not matter what. I was just doing my usual check on the BVA website for future releases and came across Transformers information. On there it says there will be a 2D/3D blu-ray release, it doesnt say if it is a steelbook or not though. Dont know if that helps or how reliable it is but they do list paramount as a full member

Oh, but it could. As has been mentioned, publicity has made Disney change their policy in the same situation in the past. And if nobody says anything, nothing will change for sure.

Paul knows what he's talking about, do you?

This steelbook has really nice artwork; I can easily understand why a buyer would choose that over the other TF4 steelbook designs and would even like to be able to watch the included film :)

Thanks @paulboland on the image.

Folks, as we have always said, this forum is not the place to have ongoing legal debates. Please take this up with the appropriate parties if you find it necessary, and take ongoing legal chatter to pms please. Thanks.

Well Guys,

Here is probably the final word on the matter in hand:

"Thank you for your eMail which has been forwarded to me for response.

I would like to confirm that, while it is common industry practice to do so, I have conferred with the BDA Licence Officer to confirm that, in fact, the BDA licence agreements do NOT require that all 3D movies in Blu-ray format be accompanied by the movie in 2D format. Rather, this is left up to the discretion of the content creator and the distributor.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Kristin McQueen

General Counsel and Secretary

Blu-ray Disc Association"

It would seem the generally believed idea of 3D + 2D being a requirement, legal or moral, is not so.

Needless to say, I thanked her for the clarification on behalf of all at the forums.

Thank God. Hopefully that is the end of that discussion!

I guess people thought they knew 'the law', but they didn't. Hey, it's the internet. I got what I paid for. :)

Regardless of packaging, law, etc. I don't think it's fair on consumers to force them to have only 2D or 3D. What if I don't fancy watching the 3D version one day or I want to take the disc to someone else's house who doesn't own a 3D TV or any number of other reasons where only having the 3D version isn't practical?
I don't see what's wrong with the current trend of offering the choice of 2D on it's own or 2D and 3D together at a slightly higher price.

If one day you 'don't fancy watching the 3D version' as you say, you just press the '3D' button on your TV remote and it will be automatically converted to 2D. Not sure why anyone would want to watch their discs in someone elses house, but hey, that's just me!

Like it or not, Paramount have found a clever way of making people (who want to, no one's putting a gun to their head remember) double dip on their product. Let's face it, it's been done for years and no one's given out about it! (ie: double dipping from different countries or different editions of movies etc...)

It's like saying, 'why is Disney/Marvel/Paramount releasing all those different Iron Man Steelbooks around the world. It's only going to cause me to go out and buy multiple copies of the same film'!!

This latest statement from the BDA certainly gives Paramount a get out clause. I've no desire to fan the flames of the earlier debate, which has run its course, but I think it worth noting that in their response, the BDA have avoided addressing the apparent contradictions between the above statement and their earlier ones, concerning the backwards compatibility of the then new 3D discs with existing 2D players. Those statements have already been quoted in this thread many times, and I have no desire to repeat them here, but they appear to have been swept under the carpet by the BDA in an almost Orwellian way, as though those statements had never been made in the first place.

I'm still interested to see what response, if any, Paramount provide to the enquiries that have been directed to them. Somehow, I can't see them publicly admitting that it's all down to corporate greed and maximising their profits, so they'll probably play the environmentally friendly card of allegedly not wanting to provide discs that are surplus to the buyer's needs and, therefore, a waste of finite resources.

Whatever, excuse they give, however, they still need to address the question as to why it is apparently only the UK that is being shafted. To put the issue into perspective, a cursory search of various international websites reveals that the standard 3D Blu-ray releases in the following countries, all contain a 2D disc as well.

USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Sweden, Norway.

The list is not exhaustive as many countries have yet to announce the specs of their releases and I have only completed a cursory search. I have, however, yet to find a 3D release, other than the UK one, which specifically excludes a 2D disc, although others may appear in due course.

Yet, all of the above releases are from Paramount. So why are UK consumers being treated differently? Paramount may well be acting within the law but their actions strike me as morally reprehensible.
