Got my damaged steelbook this afternoon from the postie, for whatever reason Amazon packaged it with a far heavier item in a large box with no packaging, end result, the front is dented and has a heavy crease down one side. Now got to send it back for a refund as it's sold out.

Hopefully FAC or another company will produce a 4k edition. Really not impressed with Amazon, seems like they have stopped putting steelbooks into good well designed protectors and are happy to offset the profit of shoddy packaging against more returns... luckily they only have one or two steelbook each year that catch my eye.
I feel your pain i have had my fair share of bad packing etc, everyone should just stop buying from them but we don't,certainly are lacking in the packing these days.
Have been buying for many years and 2017 has been worst year ever.
But sometimes you cant get the item elsewhere more so in australia.

Ouch! This was the response I received when I complained about their packaging earlier this year: "the packaging methods we use have typically proven over time to protect item effectively. We take full responsibility for the safe delivery of your order, and if your order is damaged in any way, we’ll replace it free of charge." But, of course, that is no good when they have sold out!

Thanks for the responses, A further update, customer services at Amazon UK have now sent me an email, basically they don't want the steelbook back and are going to refund me in full. So, do I take a risk and get a 3D copy, transferring the discs over, or just wait for a premium release to appear?

Does anyone know if Nova, FAC or any of the other big specialists are planning a 4k release of this film?

This question is getting asked a lot lately.

Maybe this should be the first question posted after the OP in every thread?
Just to save everybody time from ordering non premium steels that are probably going to get crushed due to poor packaging from everywhere else.

Decided in the end to buy a copy of the European Steelbook? I think its what Amazon sell in France, Germany etc. ?? The 3D version has three slots, so I should be able to straight swap the discs over.

Not got the mondo artwork and it seems a nice finish. Hoping if FAC or any of the others release this they use a similar design

Admit to liking the looks of all three of these similar style Illustrated Art steelbooks . . . not forgetting this VALERIAN artwork was the preferred choice of monsieur Besson himself.

US steelbook vs. ROW:
DIFFERENCES
- Main difference is obvious - the discs . . . with the US at the back of the queue when the discs were handed out . . . as in 1 x BD + 1 x DVD.
UK steelbook by contrast is fully loaded with 1 x 4K UHD + 1 x 3D + 1 x BD.
- .US steelbook appears to have more vibrant colours but to counter that the UK is more "metallic" with some really cool metallic reflections not seen on the US steelbook.

SIMILARITIES
- Both clearly very glossy and total fingerprint magnets

As for the long spine title - not quite in the same league as AUSTIN POWERS: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY (lol)

Still some way to go to catch up with WONDER WOMAN . . . but looks like we now have a fourth (budget non-3D/4K) steelbook announced for VALERIAN (1) at Bol.com & MediaMarkt . . .

1) Scandinavia & Germany . . . so far (2 DISCS = 1x BD-50 + 1xBonus BD-50)

2) France (3 DISCS = 1x3D BD-50 + 1xBD-50 + 1xBonus BD-50 w/ 1 1/2 hours of bonus content)

3) France (3 DISCS = 1x4K UHD BD-66 + 1xBD-50 + 1xBonus BD-50)

4a) Same but different . . .

4b) UK (and elsewhere?)
For example, Amazon UK exclusive 3 DISCS = 1x4K UHD BD-100 + 1x3D BD-50 + 1xBD-50 HDR10 only on this UK release . . . reportedly

I admit to despising all three of these similar illustrated art steelbooks. Furthermore I hope whoever keeps drawing these loses both hands in some sort of food disposal incident.
LOL
Agreed.
After the Apes HMV release another fully loaded turd
If this is indeed Luc Bessons favoured design then all I can say is he should concentrate more on trying to make a half decent movie

Must have been a very limited release since hmv's spiderman/apes 4k+3d+2d steels never sold out on release..

maybe they only requested 4k copies?

The 4K UHD would of had a smaller allocation of the steelbook print run
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
The UK steelbook most of the print run is the 3D/2D steelbook and is normal when you have same steelbook shared between the 2 formats

The 4K/3D/2D Steelbook and 3D/2D Steelbook the only difference is the disc holders inside to include the 4K UHD disc and the Jcard aside from this it's the same steelbook

The 3D/2D Steelbook is still available from all UK retailers including Amazon UK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074WC859Y/?tag=hidefnin-21

HMV not sold out yet the Spider-Man Homecoming 4K/3D/2D exclusive for a simple reason HMV only ship to UK address

The WWA steelbook with resin magnet sold better due to been a print run allocated between UK retailers with most of these beside HMV shipping worldwide

If the HMV exclusive Spider-Man Homecoming had of been a Zavvi or Amazon exclusive or trade wide that would of sold out quickly due to the other retailers shipping worldwide.

HMV limit themselves by shipping within the UK only they would have at least double the sales accross lot of products if not more if they did ship worldwide

This edition has become rather scarce it looks like.

Watched it last night and loved the 3D. The film was ok but Valerian himself annoyed me. His voice doesn't sound real!

Also chucked in the UHD and watched the obvious parts where 4K / HDR would shine and have to say that while they were stunning that 3D was still the clear winner.

only watched the 3D disc myself but quite like it

Tried not to compare it to Fifth Element and when I don't I rather liked it.

Wish I'd have caught it in the cinema but alas twas a blind buy (will be keeping an eye out for a steelbook at some point. Hopefully a premium edition down the line)

Its one of them films that grows on you....

.,,it was definitely made with the use of 3D in mind :)

Not difficult for me to see why Monsieur Besson reportedly prefers the artwork on the right . . .
