My copies of Airplane and The Thing arrived today and yes it's a damn good replica of the VHS from the 80's. Almost. One thing missing. All Universal VHS tapes in them days had CIC video in yellow or white lettering on the spine at the top...

Just popped into my local (Norwich) and picked up another two - Scarface and The Thing - to go with Breakfast Club, Blues Brothers, Ferris and Top Gun acquired yesterday. That's half of them - they're quite lovely - note, asked about Scarface and several staff with the server confirmed they've not been asked to recall them, with view being that they'd not repackage them so just sell the stock. They hinted they'd not be reordered also. Wait and see how long that lasts if sales are good!

I said that mate then I ended up buying 4 on ebay for a bargain price. I was hooked then! Lol. I’ve got all of them apart from Scarface. I need to take some pics, I’ve been getting lazy! They look really cool together, the outer slips aren’t very thick but the VHS box itself looks really cool!

As a fan of packaging in general - including these VHS style w/ classic poster art - the only thing I have against them is that it's the same ol' films over and over again - some of which have had a zillion releases in various forms since the days of VHS in packaging from metal tins and steelbooks to plastic cases.
Not going to happen, but what I'd like to see is releases of some of the 72 banned so-called 'video nasties' that have recently been released on Blu-ray … only this time in retro VHS style packaging w/ original poster art . . . now that would be an interesting set methinks.

In order of the quality of the vhs like packaging

Stranger Things USA > HMV UK > Jbhifi AU

ST and HMV are pretty close, but the AU ones are very far off. ha. Nowhere near as nice.

Glad they've sorted it out now. There's a few i want from the new selection

Somebody mentioned that they wanted Terminator or Terminator 2. Of course the reason they weren't included is that all of the titles released are either Paramount or Universal releases.

Also I don't know about the accuracy of that Scarface package. The VHS release contained 2 videotapes.

Haha I'd also probably cave if they went for £10 or under. Personally there's more cons than pros for me with these though... I already own the majority of the films, and they take up a lot of shelf space! The only pro is that they look really cool.
