They are official UK steelbooks, therefore Not rereleases.

So your lame attempt at arguing with every hidef member fails miserably again.

Who's trying to argue with everyone? Certainly not me. Sure these releases may please new collectors but they do nothing except annoy long term collectors. I've spent thousands of pounds buying steelbooks from all over the world but it seems that was a pointless exercise as they will ultimately end up being released in the UK. I'd rather studios spent more time releasing new titles which please new and old collectors alike. What's the point in releasing titles which are still widely available. I guess film studios are like any other companies. Piss off your loyal existing customers just to chase new business.

i will buy 300 already own Sherlock from best buy so :( i will also pick up the matrix inception although i own 2 blus of the movie but its worth it and maybe heat

problem is the few people keep buying them again and again like you say... so if your the studio, why not?

The consumer does have some power in there hands at end of the day. It depends on how we collectively choose to use that power. Most people just keep on double-triple-quadruple dipping on the titles (even with same art!?%^) hence more of the same sh1t. Look at G1 steel books... people stopped buying them and we don't see much of them anymore now do we.

Force the studio's to put these steel books in the discount bin for $8 and they will notice. But, that won't happen since people won't stop buying which I guess just further proves the studio's point that there is infact a demand to supply and they'll keep doing it.

I don't understand the general negative attitude towards the studios releasing more and more steelbooks. I guess the reasoning is that it affects the value and collectibility of these. Whats the problem? I thought people don't collect for value? Or better yet, according to some people, its wrong to collect for value lol. I'm the opposite, I think it is great that all these steels are being release. I take this as the pulse of how popular this hobby of ours is. So the more they release, the healthier and healthier the steelbook hobby becomes. This is very important because this will determine whether collecting steels will go the way of comicbooks, or go the way of collecting Pokemon cards.

The issue that I have is with studios that are extremely dishonest, saying something is "limited", and "exclusive", then going ahead and re release that title with very little, to no change at all to the packaging. That is what really kills the collectibility, not more releases. The Euro releases are plagued by this for some odd reason.

300, 10000 BC, Blade Runner - The Final Cut, Inception, Sherlock Holmes

Would like to own the above, hope the cover art is good, and hopefully with inside art too! :)

Waste of time all been released many times in other countries rubbish!! Not even funny these days. I wont be ordering these on principle and i already have multiple versions.

i agree..steelbook collectors don't just stick to one country. they should be kept limited and stop all the re-releases.

flooding the market is not a good thing in my opinion. every film should not get a steelbook release the minute it goes to the cinema

It doesn't bother me that these are being released over here in the uk, I quit like it actually but I will only buy if the artwork is new an unique and includes inside art. Otherwise now way Jose!

I disagree, not everyone wants to or has the finances to import editions from around the world, I only have a few steelbooks from outside of the UK, so I welcome UK releases of titles previously released in Canada, Germany and Japan etc...I like steelbooks, and just buying UK ones can be expensive, I just cant justify the added cost of importing unless its something I really want. The internet has created a worldwide marketplace, but nobody forces you to import steelbooks, its your choice to so Ive never understood the argument of 'thats been released before in Germany...why is it now coming out in the UK' etc so what? ...that release was intended for the country it was released in, the fact you imported it is irrelevant... I do however agree that not every new film should get a steelbook, and it does at times feel like it, and announcing them before films have even had their cinema debut is just silly...

I think there are too many steelbooks overall now anyhow regardless of 're releases'. Im not one of the hardcore collectors who just buy anything thats in a steelbook, I just buy the ones I like but come the new year Im gonna be cutting right back on my steelbook purchases as its becoming too much of a good thing and far too expensive

One reason is collectibility, but another is just simply that most people are fed up of seeing the same titles over and over. Warner have dozens of great films that would make great steelbooks, but they seem to be more interested in trying to flog old designs all round the world. If this had been the announcement of 5 or 6 new titles (or even just a few new titles mixed in), I'd be singing their praises. Instead I'm denouncing them because they're titles which are widely available already. I also don't understand the argument about not wanting to import or being unable to afford to import. That's rubbish. The Internet has made it easier than ever to import and prices are usually cheaper than UK releases.

Having said that if these are at a similar price point to the recent Play.com and Sony waves, then they might be worth picking up. If they're the same as the Beat Buy releases, then they're inferior to their Canadian counterparts. There's only one thing worse than a re-release and that's an inferior re-release. Who wants something worse than what is already available?

"the few" must be a large #, why else would they release the same titles again.

"the few" have voted with their $ and they are outnumbering "the few" that choose not to pay for the same releases.

This is a business and they are in it for profit. You can "vote" either way its your choice, but putting someone down because they buy 5 of the same title is wrong. Its their choice. To each his own.

I don't think that there is a large number. They saw the sales figures for their Canada and USA waves and thought 'this could work in the UK'. They don't realise that a good proportion of those sales are probably from foreign countries and that sales aren't made up of domestic customers only.

Truth is we don't know exactly how they make their decisions, there is probably many factors. who knows.

We only have the power of our pocket books, chose to buy or not to buy.

The cost of importing is not that high if you stay within the EU. Then we have all the group buys on HDN that helps members get releases that probably would get hit by customs/taxes etc. In my personal opinion this hobby would not be as fun without the importing aspect of it. I enjoy getting different releases from all over the world.

I think one good idea would be if each country got their unique art. I have no problem with the titles being released again. But if they make too many copies of something it will loose it's value as a collector's item.

I really think this is a good thing of people that can't import whether it be cost or whatever. What I always say is as long as they keep little differences, it keeps the first run to be the more limited one. Like if these end up looking like the Japanese covers, I'm all over it because the Japanese one cost a lot to import.

I agree up to a point. The BestBuy exclusives weren't as good as their predecessors from Canada (inside art) re-releases need to be at least as good as the originals, if not a bit better to sweeten the deal. But at the same time i'll be getting a lot of these. It is the best wave in recent memory for me, some awesome films are here. The cost of buying all of these from third parties and/or amazon in the first place wouldn't have been cheap to say the least! I think these are some of the best films warner have.

^^^ to the both of you and others... in 5 years from now lets see how you feel about this topic. I got ganged on after my posts and for what cuz' it hurt some of your feelings about re-releases. And don't deny it... this thread went on a hissy fit after my comments like a butt-hurt ape. So yah, this one's personal and I guess it makes me a sucker for taking something on the internet personal.

You can say whatever you want to me and make all the valid points in the world but you can never deny the fact that these are ALL re-releases. Just because your broke or you can't justify the money to import isn't a F'ing reason that doesn't make these a re-release. THESE ARE ALL RE-RELEASES. Slice it how ever you want and in the long run its bad for the hobby. Period.

That being said I have become quite desensitized to seeing re-releases popping up now and really don't care that much anymore as I buy steel books for reasons that are my own and whatever I do buy I am completely comfortable with it now if another 50 re-releases come after it.

Let see how all of you feel in the UK and elsewhere when all of these play.com exclusives so to speak are released all around the world and then re-released again and then again. Hypocrisy is at an all time high around here I find. The same people touting against re-releases are now fine with them if they don't happen to be in their collection. Hey Stevo, how about them piles of rare old steels you have... you okay if all of them get re-released again and then another time after that with the same art?

Your all entitled to think whatever you want and the same goes for me. So I said my 2 cents and you can keep on saying yours after this and I couldn't really give a sh1t anymore as Im tired of saying the same thing over and over and not going to bother reading this thread.

Call me whatever you want but my friends around here know what Im really about so Im just fine with myself and seeing as me or my opinion isn't very welcome I might as well just keep my posting in this section of the forum to a bare minimum.
