I agree with you, I think people are happy with re-releases when they don't own the steelbooks in question or missed the original release, but obviously as soon as they've purchased them they are in the opposite camp and never want to see another release of the title. And I'll admit I was the same when I first started collecting. :D

With these titles I'm not too bothered if they are the same as the Canada releases because I don't think it's particularly expensive to import from Canada to here and I don't think I've overspent or been ripped off in acquiring these from Canada. On the other hand if they have the Japanese art (Blade Runner, Matrix, Inception) I'll be more pissed because that is expensive and would be like a kick in the balls. But c'est la vie.

I'm after these...

Blade Runner - The Final Cut
Heat
I Am Legend
Inception

I don't have these so I need all of them to add to my collection. I can't wait to see the artwork on them either. ;)

^^^ to the both of you and others... in 5 years from now lets see how you feel about this topic. I got ganged on after my posts and for what cuz' it hurt some of your feelings about re-releases. And don't deny it... this thread went on a hissy fit after my comments like a butt-hurt ape. So yah, this one's personal and I guess it makes me a sucker for taking something on the internet personal.

You can say whatever you want to me and make all the valid points in the world but you can never deny the fact that these are ALL re-releases. Just because your broke or you can't justify the money to import isn't a F'ing reason that doesn't make these a re-release. THESE ARE ALL RE-RELEASES. Slice it how ever you want and in the long run its bad for the hobby. Period.

That being said I have become quite desensitized to seeing re-releases popping up now and really don't care that much anymore as I buy steel books for reasons that are my own and whatever I do buy I am completely comfortable with it now if another 50 re-releases come after it.

Let see how all of you feel in the UK and elsewhere when all of these play.com exclusives so to speak are released all around the world and then re-released again and then again. Hypocrisy is at an all time high around here I find. The same people touting against re-releases are now fine with them if they don't happen to be in their collection. Hey Stevo, how about them piles of rare old steels you have... you okay if all of them get re-released again and then another time after that with the same art?

Your all entitled to think whatever you want and the same goes for me. So I said my 2 cents and you can keep on saying yours after this and I couldn't really give a sh1t anymore as Im tired of saying the same thing over and over and not going to bother reading this thread.

Call me whatever you want but my friends around here know what Im really about so Im just fine with myself and seeing as me or my opinion isn't very welcome I might as well just keep my posting in this section of the forum to a bare minimum.

I am not sure why your getting all bent out shape over this. I thought we were having a pretty healthy discussion here. I don't think anyone was being attacked.

Everyone has their own opinion on this matter and your opinion is as valid as anyone elses and you should continue to voice your opinion.

I myself don't like re-releases in general. But I am not going to bash someone that collects 5 or 10 releases of the same title.

I'd be suprised if this thread remains unedited. Honestly, whatever side of the argument you fall on it isn't personal. If I asked someone why they have so many copies of the same steel, it's nothing personal - i'm sure other's posts are intended in the same way, they're just asking the question.

Some ppl really despise others gettin numerous copies of the same steelbook especially if it is rare/very highly valued. Some people don't care. I'm personally bothered a bit, but I have a few duplicates in my collection and these are solely for trading. If someone has 3 Thor steelbooks, fine, just as long as they are trading them and/or selling them on here for a reasonable price? How would people trade steelbooks otherwise?

I traded a couple of my play exclusives with someone who had a few bestbuy duplicates. Now we both have the steels we wanted from each wave across the atlantic. What is the problem?

Steelbook86 I love a good rant, hats off to you that was as good as any I have seen, but chill out a bit. I agree after your comment/s the thread went a bit ape-sh** but honestly I love thrashing around a good debate as long as it doesn't get personal. Stevo doesn't trade or sell his Blu-rays, he admits he can be sarcastic at time it wasn't personal. When the play exclusives got re-released (a lot of them have) honestly, I couldn't care less. We had the originals and many of the re-releases weren't as good (no embossing) or cost a lot more. That's fine.

IM FS many said would go down in value due to the play version. I myself thought the same until I saw a few sell on eBay for as much as they have ever been. People always think this at first but the originals remain the originals. You're not allowed to say/express an opinion for the former, but you are the latter which is one of the defects of this forum. 98-99% they get right IMO but it isn't perfect if you have suggestions for improvments apsmith21 himself says he is all ears.

Other than that I would be suprised if this thread survives as it is because the other wave from play (Die Hard, Armegeddon, Con-Air and The Rock) got disbanded into serperate threads. We're not allowed to have threads for waves either, this falls into the 1-2% apsmith or whoever take note ;)

After posting this I just read stinkofdefeat's post and I wanted to say something similar but went on a bit of a rant. Agree we were having an awesome discussion, long may it continue, he said what I wanted to but a lot more concisely!

just food for thought guys. read the small print on your canadian WB steelbooks data sheets (300, heat etc) NOT AUTHORIZED FOR SALE OR RENTAL OUTSIDE THE USA AND CANADA. this copyrighted product is authorized for sale or rental for home use in the USA and canada ONLY. Federal law provides severe civil and criminal penalties for the unauthorized distribution .... etc etc.
Warners (and all other studios) produce an item for a particualr market/country, and don't necessarily have the distribution rights in other countries (EG die hard with a vengeance is fox in US and oz, but not here in the UK) by rights, you are not supposed to import films from other countries, but a blind eye is turned.
therefore, the only re-release in this batch is 10,000bc (which they may be making a decent steelbook to replace the poor effort the first time round)
now i know most of us like imports, and yes, its nice to finally get that hard to find asian import, or one of the many very rare steels out there, but lets not be narrow minded about it.
i refuse now to own any steelbook without english text (barring the odd canadian release that has both english and french. but detest with a passion the bilingual spines) so i would like to see a uk release of pretty much every alliance release with the same artwork. and a uk release of a great many german and asian steels.
many of you would hate it if that were to happen, but that would be my ideal scenario.
im not in it to make money, or to boast to anyone that i have a super duper rare collectors item.
i just like my films in steelbooks (as long as they are good quality) but i have certain criteria. for me, id like inside artwork and clean backs (with j-cards for the data) maybe embossing and no age ratings on every steelbook. so id be happy for every title thats been released so far that doesnt tick those boxes to get re-released.

but we all have an opinion here. some of us want to keep things limited, others just want to own thier favourite films in steelbook.
im afraid the only opinions that count though are the ones of the people who make and sell the films. they need to make money, and collectable packaging is one way to do that.
they have listened to us in terms of the quality we would like (regarding inside artwork and clean backs etc) and this year just look at the large number of top quality steels we have had (2nd to none. this year the UK leads the way. no question)
so i for one will give warners a big thankyou for joining the fray. its been a while coming, but welcome.
ideally, fresh artwork (although that would lead to double dipping for me on a few) but a rehash of the canadian ones will do. i would prefer all english datasheets anyway, just please ive us inside artwork. i would jump on matrix for sure but not if the inside is bald. i will hold out for a candian copy with the inside artwork if thats the case.

You are correct. Try getting through to some others.

I'm looking forward to these releases. I've been wanting a Heat steelbook since I started collecting in January. Never wanted to pay Amazon Canada's international rates though, especially since their shipping methods are....less than adequate.

They never mentioned not authorised TO TRADE outside the USA and Canada :D

its all good

Blade Runner 5 Disc including the Final Cut is just the same. It says not authorized for sale outside the US yada yada yada. Yet, on hundreds of occasions if not more, it has been traded and traded all over eBay and amazon. I myself have bought and sold it :D

In 5 years time I expect I'll feel the same about this topic as I do now. I want to get some of the steelbooks in this wave, and that single fact is all that matters to me. If they are then released in 1, 2, or 10 other countries, what does that matter to me? I'm not in this hobby to have rare exclusive items, or to watch my steelbooks rise in value, I'm in it because I love films, and I love steelbooks, and collecting them makes me happy.

I said before that It would have been wiser to mix some new-to-the-format titles in with these re-releases, as it keeps the gene pool from shrinking, so to speak. But re-releases are inevitable. It happened with VHS, it happened with DVD, with Blu-Ray, and it will happen with steelbooks. It isn't going to kill the hobby, and I think such claims are ridiculous proclamations of doom.

If people are upset because they've paid through the nose to get a previous version - that was their choice, and it is not the publisher's fault. If they're upset because it has devalued their rare steelbooks, well that just stinks of self-entitlement to me. No one ever promised you your steelbooks would be worth a fortune, and if you're collecting for that reason, then you have to accept that that's all part of the game.

So if you don't want them, don't buy them. Vote with your wallet. I'll do the same, by purchasing the ones I want. But don't go and claim that by doing so, I'm killing the steelbook hobby. It's ludicrous and just a little insulting. I have every right to buy what I want, without people putting me down for doing so.

People aren't getting butt-hurt over the opinions, but over how they're being expressed.

It's passion for the hobby is all. It's hard for people that have been collecting for a long time to not hate re-releases but this happens with regular amarays and DVDs before that.

But I'll say we should get back on topic. This could go back and forth for a while.

So does anyone know whether these are going to be the white releases or the Canadian versions? If they are the white ones then I'll hold off buying Blade Runner.

Premium Collection makes me think the white art, but who knows at this point.

Honestly, the same studios from country to country have no idea what they are doing.

I think Wreck was talking to Warner UK at one point and they were like, check out these white covers on digis, no one has done this!

Then Wreck said....uh, warner japan did!
