What demo discs do you use to show off your home cinema system with?

discuss and share :D

If i have to show off, the titles i use are

Avatar (any scene for the stunning PQ)
Transformers (usually Ironhide doing a cartwheel during the finale for some superb LFE)
2001 a Space Odyssey (for showing how good a film from 1968 can look in HD)
Alien (ditto)
Transformers Dark of the Moon 3D (for some outstanding 3D during the opening scenes)
A Christmas Carol 3D (title sequence in 3D)
Jurassic Park (for some superb 7.1 surround sound action)
Akira (192 Khz Dolby TrueHD track)
Tron Legacy 3D (sort of a combo really, PQ, 3D and 7.1)

I also keep a copy of The Haunting (1999) with DTS-ES 6.1 handy to show the difference between stereo and surround sound. My Neighbour pratically bought a surround sound system after he saw that in action

It be the opening part of the Transformers 3 where you can hear the rear surrounds come into play, the 6th and 7th speaker.

Im actually happy to be late to the SQ party! Comments like this get me so excited because I get to experience my BDs in a new way! I've been a Videophile for so long, hearing that rumble and sound coming from everywhere with the PQ will be incredible!

In about 1-2 years time I be upgrading my Pioneer AV to 9.2 channel surround sound. So in addition to the rear surrounds in the 7.1 set up + two extra front left and right speakers, 8th and 9th, positioned about 2 feet above the front left or right speakers. You can also have extra sub woofer as well so two in each total.

That will be the awesome next sound generation. 9.2 channel surround sound in DTS HD-Master :hilarious:

Got shot of my 5:1 and 7:1 set ups due to cash shortages and the realisation that a decent set of fronts can do the business competently for the stuff I watch.

So, down in the 2:0 corner running visuals to plasma...

Transformers 2 IMAX (a.k.a. Walmart big screen edition?) - The forest battle where the letter box disappears and the graphic quality eats normal BD-HD for breakfast.

Outlander - The opening sequence where the ship enters the atmosphere for some good floor shaking. Plus the monster is a bit fine in the bridge scene.

Guilty Crown - Opening sequence of first episode seems to hypnotise anime fans.

Appleseed: Ex Machina - The combat sequence on the arcologies.

Special Forces - BD-HD lends itself to bright scenes. (Hence Sony giving away Casino Royale with the first PS3s.) This film has scenery never before seen on film, and it is stunning.

John Carter - bright scenes again, superb and detailed CGI faultlessly implemented, and a load of fun to watch :)

I know this might not be place to discuss this but if anyone can suggest a nice priced 5.1 or 7.1 setup I would be obliged! ;)

Prices are quite good for 7.1 set up as they been around for a few years now. You can get prices around $400 which is a decent AV overall. It also depends which company you get it from and if you want THX certification which adds a lot more $$$, such as THX Ultra2 Plus, THX Select2 Plus and THX I/S Plus.

My one doesn't have THX certification but the next AV I plan to get does have it.

A film which I think looks particularly good on my 50" Samsung plasma is actually a bit of an oldie - the Criterion edition of "The Night of the Hunter". The black and white photography looks absolutely stunning.

i dont use a demo disc, i just watch movies myself but would pick the start of the dark knight where they are setting up to rob the bank

I currently have a 9.1 surround setup and the discs of choice are:
Terminator Salvation, ESP the scene where the resistance are attacking the terminator base. Listen to those A-10 Warthogs fire those spent plutonium shells.
Quantum Of Solace, the car chase at the beginning.
Fast Five, the safe chase scene.

Just setup my 5.1 systems last night.. Tested the following:

Tron... Whoa!
Avatar
Star Wars Episode 2 (Asteroid Chase Scene)
Pulp Fiction

More titles arriving soon to annoy the neighbors with lol

All great movies for video and sound. I never can really turn anything up to loud because of living in town home apartments. I still have never been able to really push my Outlaw LFM 1. I have it set at 2 1/2 on the back of it and with everything balanced it still shakes everything on our walls and the neighbors. :D
