I am starting a new thread so every one of us can share his/hers own idea of what makes a steel valuable...
i was looking for something like a small debate/dialogue however you wanna call it :D

is it the country?
the artwork?
the movie itself?

waiting for posts!!!
cheers

IF I Like it I save up and have it. I have just been really really lucky that I have not fallen in love with any of the holy grail ones.

Like Watchmen I genuinely prefer the Play to the ***herstop and the German Inglorious Barstools bullet holed swastika to the Brad Pitt cover.

I order early on release after I wanted Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes £17 and it sold out before I got paid and one seller had 15 on ebay for £35. Luckily I waited it came back in stock and I got it for £18. So I now pre order and cancel BEFORE I get charged.

If we all went to the cinema to see a film we would be looking at about £25 for a family ticket so I use that as a marker as a saving guide. Weird I know but it works for me :movie:.

Most I have paid is Gladiator mint opened that was 28 with postage

i actually never thought of the cinema ticket thought of yours, great point.
well i have the same kind of idea...first like it then buy it, they only one i havent seen the film but bought for art work was farewell my concubine blu fans...just a look was enough...
i also do preorders but i use my patience over some bids which i consider good..
some 10 gbp ones i still get for the collection
started as a boxset collector though and in that the prices for some are huge

p.s thanks for helping the thread, at least i am learning few things and looking at different angles ;)

What makes a steelbook valuable to me

1. It has to be a film I really like, if for instance a steelbook is selling for $100 unless I like the film it is worthless to me so I won't buy it.
2. The cover art
3. The spine and back artwork
4. Inside artwork
5. Actually being "limited"

yep pretty much what a collector would also think i would say//:scat:

1/ A very good film with limited prints
2/ Artwork (inside and out) thats really cool
3/ Embossing
4/ Its only worth what somebody is prepared to pay.

I did see the FS Ironman original go for £460.00 other night. Could have done with a dozen or so of those.

id never pay for iron man FS more than 100 pounds. (now all are going to disagree with me) but my point is
there are a lot far better comics than iron man both in artwork and movie quality like the dark knight trilogy. plus i consider the number of prints of it ridiculous to take the price that high (i guess its the demand of people) but i dont get why FWMC with booklet limit to 500 is not worth not even half as much...

How can the number of prints be ridiculous ?*If there are 100,000 copies of a movie opposed to a movie with 3000 copies its common sense to say the less copies of the SB movie there are will definately add a value element to the product.

Your entitled to an opinion but talk sense man.:hilarious:

read again my quote i havent compared it with amarays but with FWMC which is 500 copies...i cant understand when 3000 vs 500 or even 200 which moulin rouge and romeo and juliet china iron packs are ...and they are less expensive...thats the comparison not with the amarays

so your only based on demand and scarcity??[/QUOTE]

Basically as a whole that is what its based on, but if im not after it then it wont make a difference so it has to be something im looking for aswell. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

well...good point, but some people look at steels as means to make profit,
as a collector though id like to have every single one, so a demand for everything hahahah

p.s put one more smile face ;)
