What makes SteelBooks so addictive / collectible?

Ever since the early days of SteelBook collecting (around 2004-2007) I have always wondered what it is about SteelBooks that make them so collectible?

I first started collecting SteelBook Dvd releases around 2005, shortly after the first SteelBook was released for a PS2 game called Killzone. At first they were something new and exciting, and I felt compelled to actively seek them all out and collect them. It was easy at first, as there weren't many releases in SteelBook form - They truly were a premium product! However, as soon as interest in SteelBooks picked up, we saw several waves of catalogue releases in SteelBook form (the FOX / MGM Cinema Reserve and Definitive Editions)

The SteelBook collecting scene was still pretty small back then, but it was evident that SteelBooks were an addictive hobby - Yet nobody knew why! There's something about SteelBooks that draws us all in as collectors, whether it's their premium feel, their limited number (some more than others), or just the sheer fact that they're something different than Amaray cases. Whatever it is, it has us all hooked, and it's difficult to draw yourself away from buying more!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels addicted to collecting SteelBooks... From one SteelBook collector to many others, I would like to ask you guys why you feel SteelBooks are so addictive?

Aesthetically they look and feel awesome and great artwork makes them even more collectible.

They're like potato chips you can never have just one ;)

For me i just love that premium feeling to me and as a collector they just look great on a shelf, spine facing you or full frontal. Whether you open them or keep them sealed, when you pick them up or see them it just makes you smile and that cant be a bad thing in todays world
