Neal Caffrey, a con man, forger and thief, is captured after a three-year game of cat and mouse with the FBI. With only months left while serving a four-year sentence,[4] he escapes from a maximum security federal prison to find Kate, his ex-girlfriend. Peter Burke, the FBI agent who initially captured Caffrey, finds him and returns Caffrey to prison. This time, Caffrey gives Burke information about evidence in another case; however, this information comes with a price: Burke must have a meeting with Caffrey. At this meeting, Caffrey proposes a deal: he will help Burke catch other criminals as part of a work-release program. Burke agrees, after some hesitation. Through the successful apprehending of several white collar criminals, Caffrey has proven to Burke that he will help him, and that he will not try to escape again. This begins an unconventional but successful partnership.

Summer Finale is tonight!

White Collar wraps up its summer season with a surprising season finale that has Peter and Neal reminiscing about the early days of their partnership during an FBI conference that goes wrong. The pair are on the outs after last week's episode, which had Peter's digging sending Sam back into hiding. Will the estranged partners manage to come together to thwart a brazen FBI theft?

According to White Collar creator and executive producer Jeff Eastin, it's this tenuous push and pull of Peter (Tim DeKay) and Neal's (Matt Bomer) relationship that makes the show work so well.

"You know, the tough part of about this show a lot of times is really, you know trying to keep things fresh between Neal and Peter," Eastin told us during a conference call. "And the thing that I see on Twitter a lot are people saying, 'Oh, just you know just make them happy. Just let them be friends. Take away Neal’s angles.' And, you know it’s like as easy as that would be I think then we’d just end up with another, you know police procedural show where the — you know two pretty guys banter solving crimes."

But, Eastin says, even when the guys are going through a rough patch, they still have each other's backs. "There’s something they say in the finale — 'Even if we don’t have trust, we have faith.' And, you know that was something that we had talked about. It’s like a certain point these guys, you know have been through so much, and Peter especially has put up with so much from Neal. And, you know the one thing he sort of discovers is, you know there’ll never be a time when Neal betrays him."

Tonight's finale also has a last-minute twist that is certain to have fans buzzing. "I think the cliffhanger, you know at the end of Season 4.5 is pretty awesome," Eastin teased. "You know, I think, again, it’s really — really sort of refocuses on Peter’s relationship with Neal, and really how in a lot of ways Peter is sort of the father that Neal never had."

Hit the comments below with your theories about what the shocking twist might be, then tune in to USA tonight at 9/8c to watch the season finale of White Collar and catch a sneak peek at Jeff Eastin's newest drama, Graceland.
