Would a blu-ray only release put you off buying an Astro Creations Excl Steelbook?

As per the title, I'm looking to gauge interest on how a blu-ray only title will be received for the next Astro Creations release.

The title in mind is pretty high profile, with no real special edition to speak of, and I know its near the top of many people's want lists... there's just no 4K release for it.

doesn't affect me as i dont open premium steelbook releases so not bothered. as long as the artwork is decent I buy it.

Probably not going to vote because I didn’t buy Lone survivor and didn’t like the artworks chosen (already expressed this way back when that was announced) so going forward I’d have to see if I like the film and the artworks chosen on releases but I’d happily support and buy editions of stuff I like.

If there’s no 4K then there’s no 4K, that wouldn’t affect me. I’d only be annoyed if there was 4K but the decision to exclude it was made. But again it depends on if I like the film and the steelbook and slip artworks

Yep. It's a case of there's no 4k available anywhere for this one hypothetical title, or any studio plans/interest for there to be one from what has been said.

Appreciate your thoughts on the rest of it. Unless it's a film I love (and even then it's a stretch), I'm not up for buying something I don't like the art for.

Hmm, it does make me think it could be American Beauty then. Which is a thumbs up from me. However as an example I know exactly how I’d want the steel to look and slips so I’d be disappointed if it’s nothing like I’d want it to look and I’d end up passing on it. But again I’m going by Lone Survivor and how I didn’t like the design choices

Yeah there’s certain films that I might not be big on but if the art blows me away then I’ll grab it. If it’s both then win win

This is basically what I've been doing since rekindling my enthusiasm for film collecting a few years ago.
If it's a film I love and a steel I love, it doesn't matter if it's Blu or UHD.

I've only been upgrading to 4K for films I absolutely love, and although this is a film I adore, I'd still very happily settle for a blu-ray since I don't actually currently own it on anything other than DVD anyway... have been waiting for a nice steelbook release for yonks!

I wouldn't mind a Blu-ray release at all. Nowadays I usually go for 4K when available, but with a film that has good source material and disc transfer, I'm perfectly happy with a Blu-ray disc.

American Beauty has been another of my biggest wants next to Truman Show, so out of interest, what is it you have in mind for AB? Official art is very limited for it, but thankfully the main rose petal poster is stunning and super iconic!

Honestly it’s one of my biggest wants. And I’d buy it with just Blu Ray because I still only own the DVD. I’ve dreamt about how a premium should look for years.

(Back can be whatever)

Front of the full slip (with glossing all over those petals and mena and I suppose bossing that kinda looks like waves - I can’t explain it) with maybe some red foil touches. Needs to look stunning

And the back maybe a continuation of petals.

However I’d accept it the other way round (petal art as steel and stomach as slip - that would work too, tbh it might work better with the petal art as the steel. Emboss mena and in full gloss and petals on the back and the stomach art as a full slip, spot gloss the rose with a soft touch matte on the rest maybe - but the finish would be minimal that way) but this is all I’ve ever dreamed of for this film in premium format. Just give me that please

Do that and I’m all over it in a heartbeat

That's basically what I want too, only the other way around maybe... steel with petal art and the slip with stomach art. Although I agree either way would work just as well tbf. Finish would definitely need to be minimal and classy like you described. Honestly can't believe no one's done a premium release for it yet. Hopefully we'll get our wish someday!

It’s been a while since I see the petal art so clearly so when I started replying to you I did think oh damn, actually the petal art as the steel and the stomach/ rose art as the slip

If the petal art is on steel it has to be full gloss with an embossed Mena though. That would be so classy. And then the slip with the minimal classy look

Yeah, goes without saying the steel needs to be full gloss! I'm not sure about embossing though... I reckon simply debossing the title (à la Manta) would look classier. Embossing Mena only would maybe look weird, since parts of her body are covered in roses.

Nah I can see it in my minds eye. It would look incredible. Keep it clean, full gloss and embossing on the title and Mena and you have gold. You’d keep the petals around her embossed too, around the edge of her. Not gaps in her body.

Yeah I'd rather have a 4k release but I've got several old steels I've bought the 4k disc for separately. Ultimately discs don't really hold value as there's always more supply than demand but that's not true for the best steels/slips.
