I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

The Zavvi Cash Cow has been pumping out releases for over a year now, but it finally looks like we have become lactose intolerant. Everything Starling said is on the money. Thinking of even canceling my Indy steels. I no longer think this will be a Zavvi exclusive.
I also feel that HDN should maybe distance itself a little from them for risk of turning into their marketing tool and possibly losing the hard earned credibility it has.

I haven't had any bad experiences with them, but I don't think I want to order any of their "exclusives" anymore. They are over-saturating the market with steels for every random film....like, for There Will Be Blood? It just doesn't *feel* like a steelbook title. Just wish it could go back to being a bit more exclusive....not so many titles a week or month....sort of like MoC does with theirs...they'll go months without having a title released in a steel. That's why i'll collect all of the ones they release....and Arrow as well!

You contradict yourself a bit saying There Will Be Blood doesn't *feel* like a steelbook title, yet you buy all of the MoC steels, none of which *feel* like steelbook titles using that same logic.

There will be Blood was nominated for about 10 Oscars, a similar number to Lawrence of Arabia - a steelbook nobody complained about when that was announced.

It's not contradictory....what I "feel" should or shouldn't be in a steel is a subjective view. What "feels" like a steelbook to me, won't for others.

Wish they had sent me 100 copies of Roger Rabit and threatened me with legal action.:hilarious:

Hahahaha, I wish I ordered 1000 of that vita game.
I would have given them **** back in return.
I would probably have checked the PS Vita's on errors and even demanded my money back if one of them was broken/damaged :).

Zavvi deserves this. I wish everyone who kept his/her Vita a lot of fun :D.
Or send it back, but demand Zavvi to pay for the shipping costs in advance.
Shipping isn't that expensive, but a cardboard box is extremely expensive (300 Euros where I am from).

Not steelbook related, but look how incompetent Zavvi is.

EDIT:

Ah I see it was already covered :)

We really need to stop giving Zavvi money as a community, I've never experienced such disdain and lack of care from a company. I also got a free PS Vita and will not be returning it haha.

Found its way on BBC News main page now:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25330615

Interestingly, they won't know which ones got the Vita and which ones did not.

If, ;) wink wink, you can show you got the game, they won't be successful in any legal action I reckon.

I used to like Zavvi and sometimes even stick up for them when other members always seemed to have it in for them. But just lately they are getting worse if that's even possible. I have had no choice but to cancel all of my pre orders due to their rip off pricing policies. All you hear on this forum lately is "cancelled" "cancelled" and you can't blame people for doing it. Zavvi are doing themselves no favours at all by their pricing policies, sure prices have to give a bit if a product isn't selling well but not before you even receive a pre ordered copy at full price. It has put a lot of people off pre ordering from them even more so with the strange choice of recent titles. So Zavvi at the moment are faced with no one pre ordering the latest titles and customers cancelling left right and centre existing pre orders and it's all their own doing, we now are in a time of hoping for a price drop thanks to Zavvi and I will be pre ordering nothing from now on.

Great thoughts here, and the folks at Zavvi understand this very well after a year that's been a learning experience for everyone. Maybe winds of change are coming. Thanks as always for sharing your feedback at HDN, guys!

The 6 disc Alien set is under £13 on Zavvi right now. £13 on Amazon too. Considering that, and that the 4 disc steelbook was only £20, £15 for this seems way too high.

I think it's a case of the others being well priced, rather than this being ridiculously price. I think £9.99 or £10.99 would be great and it would fly off the virtual shelves. I guess those days are over now though :(

it should be 8.99, that would be a fair price

The truth is that Zavvi can charge whatever they like when they are the only retailer producing decent quality Steelbooks at reasonable prices on a regular basis. Aside from a dozen or so nice catalogue releases from countries like Canada/France/Germany/USA and a handful of great Blufans/Kimchi releases per year, there isn't much to cheer about. I would rather pay £14.99 for a quality Steelbook than £10 for one with a printed back and no inside artwork.

yeah but it doesn't have to be 14.99
the fact that most of zavvi exclusive steels dropped in price just days after release, proves that the 14.99 they ask is a ridiculous amount. They know it too. Those who pre-order, fearing that it sells out, are the victims of this ridiculous pricing strategy.

Most of the Play.com steelbooks were of excellent quality & had original artwork and were only 9 - 11 gbp...

It doesn't prove anything really. Maybe they are making a huge margin or more likely they are struggling with ridiculous amounts of excess stock and need to clear some space. Why would a company persist with a £14.99 price point and drop it after a week if they could afford to sell them for the reduced price in the first place and avoid all of the criticism?
