Current packaging is a cardboard mailer with the steelbook usually wrapped in either a layer of bubble wrap or foam

I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

1/19/2013 Member Nyvo tweeted Zaavi about packaging concerns. They said they may be looking into alternate packaging methods.

My guess is it's happening at the Zavvi warehouse- I imagine they receive the steelbooks from the manufacturer and whoever is then opening the box to send out to customers is slashing the spine as they use a stanley knife or boxcutter to open that box.
I've seen the exact same thing happen to slipcovers getting a slashed spine in stores when the blurays are being unboxed and put on the store shelves for sale.

If it's through the shrinkwrap it's most likely Zavvi, if it's under the shrinkwrap then it's most likely the company who packages the Steelbooks with discs, J-cards etc.
 
I'm not that impressed with Zavvi. I always rate a company on how they deal with stuff when something goes wrong. I got delivery of Jungle Book Steelbook yesterday.... along with a scratch down the front! I hat this e-mail a message, wait at least 2wks for them to reply, just to send another message back, then wait another 2wks! They take your money then make it impossible for you to return anything. Not only that, I now have to leave work early to get to the post office, petrol, parking, payment to return it, then have to go through all the rubbish again to get post cost back, only if they decide its damaged of course!! Terrible customer service.
 
Gutted, I'm one of the unlucky one's. My slash is through the shrink wrap, leaving a gouge in the spine.:angry:

It would take them 2 seconds to check for this when packing for despatch.

I've reported my Jungle Book spine slash, via the website now.

If I'm unable to get a mint replacement, I'll just cancel all pre-orders and pick up anything I want via trades or purchases on HDN. Only way to avoid this garbage.

We are the only customers and we have the money
without us Zavvi is bankrupt

Unfortunately Zavvi will still make their money with all these releases. May take them a little longer to sell out without some of us on board, but sell out they will.

I'm just removing myself from the Zavvi damaged goods lottery (a lottery I seem to "win" quite a lot:naughty:).
 
whats the best way to get a refund....jungle book is spine slash city! I've never sent back to Zavvi before!

If it's a straight refund you want, that should be quite simple. Log in to your account and find the JB order in you're account history. You then use the query option to ask for you're refund. Think they email you a label or something to return it.
 
Was so happy it finally arrived, until I saw the spine slash! And its a deep one too, cutting the metal and J card deep. Now to message Zavvi...

digitalbabe - you may not get loads of photo's in here, however how about adding a poll to show how many of us are affected by this issue? Might help in showing the sheer number of instances?

I have just canceled all pre-orders € 380
I am very disappointed by Zavvi or whoever also to blame for.
