Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

All the pics of Jungle Book indicate that the slashes are being done through the shrinkwrap, which would indicate that the damage is being done in Zavvi's warehousing facility. Has anybody received a copy of JB that has a slashed spine but with the shrinkwrap unmarked?

Mines was through the shrink-wrap.

This might be straying marginally OT and if so I apologise but why oh why is it that spine cuts whether above the shrink or under the shrink are always in the same 2 inch central section, never top or bottom of spine or anywhere else on the steel. Maybe they should completely reconsider the way they are packaged.

Since I heared a lot of bad things about the zavvi custom service, I would like to share my experience. I send a email to the which has been answered within under 2 hours. Problem was solved promptly.

The slash marks will usually correspond to the centre line across the top of the shipping box in which the steels are packed (with their spines facing upwards).

I used to manage a warehouse myself where blu-rays were received and unboxed, and I would sometimes see this happening first hand. The cases come in long boxes that are sealed across the top with one strip of tape, and it's the careless cutting open of the box that inflicts the damage.

All Scananvo needs to do is lay a piece of cardboard on top of the steels when they pack them up and send them off. That way when the box cutters open them, they are slashing into cardboard instead of the steels.

That would be the most effective way to solve the problem, but there's an even easier and cheaper solution: better staff training in the warehousing facility.

All that needs to happen is for staff to be instructed to cut the tape at either end and then pull up the box lid before cutting the tape lengthways. It's so easy and quick to do, and all it needs is proper training and instruction so that unpackers don't slash the tape without without first pulling up the lid.

This problem is so easy to avoid and all it needs is correct training and an effort by warehouse managers to insist on correct procedure.

Also where i work we are not allowed to use Stanley Knife style cutters, health and safety and all that, if they used proper box cutters, these slashes would not happen
Here's mine

I agree with colleague, it is lack of training of people from storage, to the merchant is only a detail, but for us collectors is inadmissible and devalues the collection. For me here in Brazil is complicated return, with a higher cost than the SB itself, if they arrive marked'll have to stay with them, but I will complain enough.

I got a Ted Steelbook from Zavvi with a spine slash. Not through the plastic though, so I guess not Zavvi's fault.

In any case, this is a worldwide problem. I've purchased steelbooks from all over that have had this problem. If under the plastic, these items should be pulled before the retailers even get them imo.

I have a slashed spine as well, but it pales in comparison to some on here. Think I'm going to keep it as others deserve a replacement more than me. I've ordered Roger Rabbit, Nemo and Aladdin from Zavvi, and only Nemo arrived without some form of scratch on the spine. Getting to the point where I'm now cancelling the majority of my preorders from Zavvi. Customer service was pretty awful when I contacted them about the problems with Aladdin, they just stopped replying...

I also have a noticeable paint chip, which others seem to be complaining of as well

from zavvi returns form:

5.
Please DO NOT mark or affix the returns label to the original manufacturer’s container. Labels should only
be affixed to the mailing box/bag. Refunds will not be issued in this case.

can somebody tell me what that means? is it not allowed to use the box that the item was shipped in?

I'm pretty sure that it is the studio and not the retailer who decides on content. It's not as if Zavvi have started a trend of excluding extras and 3D discs, that was well established before Zavvi started releasing Steelbooks.

No other UK retailers have a £7-£8 mark up on new releases from what you can pick up the amaray for.
And do you really wanna start blaming studios again?
You've already been proven wrong about Disney setting Zavvi's prices.
You can no longer say only Zavvi's Disney prices are high, because all their popular releases i.e Iron Man 3, Fast 6, Despicable me 2, all £22.99-£23.99.
Low profile new releases cost £17.50 i.e Olympus has fallen and Beyond the pines which didn't do big numbers at the box office and you can buy the amarays for £13 on Amazon.

Simple, add the extra discs or drop the price or face the criticism and loss of sales.

What's the best and fastest way to get a replacement shipped out for a spine slashed item?

Looking for an email address, website etc?

You log in to your account, select the item in question, then click on the "Query" button to send them an e-mail. They then e-mail you a FREEPOST returns label. I had to do that a couple of weeks ago to return a damaged copy of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It arrived damaged on a Saturday, I raised the query straight away and received the returns label later that day. I posted it on the Monday, and the replacement was despatched 3-4 days later (Thursday, I think), and received it the following Monday. So the whole process took just over a week to get a replacement.
