Current packaging is a cardboard mailer with the steelbook usually wrapped in either a layer of bubble wrap or foam

I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

It's possible but from the pics it also looks like the cut is through the shrinkrap which means at least some of these are getting slashed after they've been packaged and wrapped already.

Thanks all for your continued comments-hopefully they are looking at all points along the distribution chain to narrow down the source.

Anybody know whether Zavvi is actually switching to the slimmer, less padded packaging received by many for Evil Dead etc., or is it possible they're just waiting on more stock of the thicker foam inserts and boxes?

How is the return policy for customers outside of Europe? I really hope they are awaiting more thicker foam because for people outside of The Kingdom, being a Zavvi costumer and potentially receiving damage goods might not be worth the risk.

If you can afford it, always purchase another and send the damaged one back for a refund. The proceed is very slow, otherwise.

Make sure you email them even if you are going to keep it. You may get a small refund and in the bigger scheme of things, it lets Zavvi know just how big this problem is.

that's what i did already. i was naive enough for a long time to accept items with minor damages and do nothing about it. but in this case i will not rest until i get a part of my money back.

Took a day to receive responses to my damaged evil dead 2 & remakes. Sent 1 email asking for pics for evil dead 2, and the same guy sent another asking for a return of evil dead remake

Sent me a printable collect+ label, for which i have no means to print out. What happened to the freepost address that was quick and easy? Seems zavvi are going backwards in all departments

what a mess. mine is slashed through the shrink wrap. i hope zavvi will change something in their warehouses soon.

i think i will keep it. it's tiny, i dont want to have the usual fight with costumer service and return policies, and i got it a bit cheaper anyway (6off60 code = 24 euros).

My spine looked like this, but it definitely was not a spine slash. It was a seam where the shrink wrap joined.

Just to clarify DB, I was referring to the scratches on the back of Sabertooth's which everybody's copy seems to have. The spine slashes are of course done by a human, if you can call them that.

This really makes no sense at all. I give credit to Zavvi for listening to feedback and changing their packaging back earlier this year, but their usual small box and foam were barely cutting it even then. If they took that packaging and made it slightly bigger, the box and the foam, I think it would be okay. Not something as big as Play.com's packaging (although that would be an excellent thing for Zavvi to do), but something in-between their regular boxes and Play's. They have taken a direction backwards if you ask me. Hopefully this is a temporary thing.

My steelbooks arrived damaged, scratches all over. what a piece of CRAP CRAP packaging!
Everything is much thinner and cheaper - even the steelbooks are ofless quality!

Hopefully Wreck can open up Zavvi's eyes. They need to be aware of this Craptacular packaging and all these Spine slashes, Not to mention Quality Control, sending the Wrong Steelbooks. (Some members receiving The New Evil Dead remake Instead of Evil Dead 2) If this keeps up than I'll be canceling all my Zavvi Pre orders

Do you actually think a business like zavvi we listen to Wreck? I personally dont think zavvi give a **** just look at the thread look how big it is compared to the others and its mostly negative.

My copy of Rambo came in exactly the same packaging . Couldn't believe how bad and quickly they have cut back on packaging . My copy looks ok but have taken it out the wrapping yet so you never know. It's very worrying as have so many more on pre order

First encounter with the new boxes Yesterday. I noticed it was a good deal thinner instantly. The useful tear strip has now gone too. The "foam" is literally unbelievable, it could give graphene a run for it's money, in a slenderness contest. Just look at that foam from Play in the OP, the good old days.

Somehow, my second copy of TJB (still waiting on my refund for the first) arrived intact, with NO spine slash, a miracle.

This is purely penny pinching on Zavvi's part, to hell with the consequences. It's 99% Disney orders for me now as well. I'm sure that will give me enough headaches.
