I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

To to some Ninjas, we gotta tread lightly on stating that you would be fine with an increase in international postage. Event though we know and would want the trade off to be for better packing/CS, with Zavvi's mentality, they are liable read the comments, raise the price £1-£2 (because "thats what the customers asked for") and not change anything. Just my 2¢.

Well when i try and buy a cd album from amazon.com i get charged £10 postage! Yet an american can buy heavier and better packed steelbooks for only 99p postage?

I know for a fact our postage is expensive now and must be at least £5 airmail for a steelbook to US so ive no idea how zavvi is only charging 99p but you guys are VERY lucky

Since you obviously make claims without proof here you go

Tax-free shopping (TFS)[1] allows shoppers to reclaim the VAT (Value-Added Tax)/GST (Goods and Services Tax) they have paid on their shopping in foreign countries. Promoting the tax rebate and making it easier for tourists to claim it back, has helped to attract travellers to many countries. Fifty of the 130 countries that levy VAT/GST allow foreign visitors to have their taxes reimbursed. TFS is subject to national regulations, such as minimum spend and restrictions on the types of products on which it can be claimed. Refunds can only be claimed on goods which are exported. However, buying goods tax free whilst on holiday does not mean travellers are exempt from paying applicable taxes on their purchases when they get home.

Approximately 52,000 people benefit each day from tax free shopping around the world. Tax-free shopping services are available from more than 320,000 stores in 40 countries worldwide.

Tax free shopping is available in the following countries: Argentina,[2] Australia,[3] Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France,[4] Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia,[5] Ireland, Israel,[6] Italy, Japan,[7] Korea,[8] Latvia, Lebanon,[9] Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico,[10] Morocco,[11] the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Singapore,[12] Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, South Africa,[13] Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan,[14] Thailand,[15] Turkey, the United States, and the United Kingdom

Who established that prices were a result of 99p shipping. I haven't seen that anywhere other than claims by a couple of people and you and off course it costs more than 99p. No one argues that. VAT as I have shown should be deducted as international customers are not subject to pay it. Amazon deducts it immediately. Zavvi must be keeping this to offset the extra cost of shipping. So unless you have proof otherwise STOP this bs about shipping and costs

From amazon UK regarding shipping outside the EU so as to be in line with UK laws

For dispatch to countries outside the EU, VAT won't be charged. These packages may be assessed for import or customs fees, depending on the laws of the country concerned.

So you think Zavvi are breaking the law? Oh dear :hilarious:

As I have said, I personally believe that prices of catalogue titles have risen from the £9.99 Play.com were charging to £14.99 because of the closing of the VAT loophole and 99p International shipping which is completely unrealistic. I don't need proof for that, it is just common sense.

At the end of the day, as an American collector you are in a very privileged position. You often get cheaper prices from Amazon than UK collectors and you pay a small amount on top of Zavvi orders compared to UK collectors despite living on the other side of the World. UK collectors on the other hand get charged realistic postage on purchases from Amazon.com which are subject to VAT and none of the other Steelbook retailers in the USA ship to the UK. I just thought that a USA collector would be more understanding of UK collectors when they get a better deal overall than we do.

reading through a lot of us complained about shipping the wrong Evil Dead (2013) / Evil Dead 2, all seemed doesn't make sense to me, how couldn't they keep track something simple like this? worse than that I just got the new packaging with thinner foam/card board box... what a disappointing...

That seems most likely IMO. Something is dragging itself along the steel at those 2 points during manufacture.

I've just been looking through the Evil Dead 2 thread, and along with the damage pictures posted in the Evil Dead 2013 thread, i think u are right. The scratches & chips are happening in the same two places it seems - top & bottom left on the back of the steelbook

Oi vey:( Some members have reported getting copies with no spine slashes, please also report back if you get a good replacement. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences here.

I ordered a second copy before returning my first with the spine slash, and it turned up mint without a slash, so very pleased.

My replacement Black Swan however arrived in a thin cardboard mailer (not box) without any foam protection and was unsealed - I'm guessing someone's returned copy....

An entertaining read but ultimately laughable.
No one said the vendor was breaking any rules. Just highlighted the fact that there is no transparency in the charges. You ultimately ignore the fact that sales to non EU countries are not subject to VAT. Loophole you speak about was aimed at stopping companies from evading the tax on sales within the UK and ultimately the European Union which the UK is part of

As for the part about being more understanding, you completely lost me. WHY? You pay cost and get free shipping. Its no different than buying any other consumer goods within the UK.

I received both of my copies today, neither of them have the spine slash or any defect.
Fortunately, they arrived in Zavvi's former packaging.

I wonder if there is a correlation between the paint chip issue and the embossing issue?

Edit: Only one copy has the embossing a bit displaced, but it's nothing major. I had to look closely to notice it.

Laughable only because you disagree, it makes perfect sense to everyone else. As for being more understanding, well I thought being part of a site like this you would actually care about other collectors and the concerns they have but it seems that it is not the case.

I care about the concerns of collectors in general in regards to quality, content, good price, packaging and overall health of the hobby and not petty unproven claims by making generalizations. I don't hear German members complaining that other get the same deal as they do.......

We in the US as many in other nations have our concerns but those are kept amongst ourselves. For example shipping outside the US is almost double or triple in some cases compared to some nations. Canada has the same issue. An even trade with no cash changing hands is more costly to us in N. America than it is to anyone in the UK. We put up with it as it is what we have to live with and not complain across the boards about it.

Enough of this mambo jambo ....... Back to discussing Zavvi.

Wrapping and j-card were in perfect mint condition, so the scratching on the back happened during production or at the packaging stage, before it got to zavvi i guess

I get those same kind of scratches all the time under the wrapper, but not through. That is what I was referencing earlier when I said multiple scratches going in different directions. I really am considering that there is some bad apple employee in the factory going "Ha! Screw those guys!" and scratching them up before putting on the Jcard.

In your case though, I can clearly see where the fault lies.
Obviously end-user error!

Bad experiences with the last orders:
- Close Encounters never arrived.

All different orders: (

Still waiting on an email to say they've actually received my returned copies, even though the tracking says its been delivered a few days ago :(
This will be a one long process! :movie:

11% off code with Zavvi. Add zmon at checkout. Today only! Works on most preorders too!

I use the code twice on 2 separate pre orders worked great

I then tried a third order code wont work anymore
also tried non pre order it wont work

There must a be a limit on number times code is used per customer

said first 200 orders on the email they sent me. Didn't work with any of my pre-orders (Seven Samurai, Wicker Man, Pan's Labyrinth) but may just have expired.
