As there have been quite a few comments about the title-less spine on ZOOTROPOLIS I thought I'd just put down a few personal thoughts on the topic (if it's permissible to do so here

At the beginning I was dead against no titles on steelbook spines as I considered it as solely a cost-saving exercise/a way to save bucks on WWA when a title would have to be printed in a dozen, or however many different native languages, for the different territories in which the steelbooks were sold . . . but now I'm starting to warm to some of them.

When I write "some of them" I'm breaking them down into 3 categories:-
+ Hate/total fail (manufacturing cock-up?)
++ Acceptable
+++ Very nice to excellent

Just based on the steelbooks spotted on my shelves - can't comment on others such as SHAUN THE SHEEP, GOOD DINOSAUR and CINDERELLA 2015 as not bought yet.

In order of release from the first U.K. steelbook without title on spine to the most recent:-

1) AVENGERS ASSEMBLE - 9/2012 - Selection of decent quality spine pics ++DISNEY (HMV)
2) MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS - 4/2013 - Vibrant red splatter artwork continuing across black spine ++ UNIVERSAL
3) AFTER EARTH - 10/2013 - Saved by weird j-card with title on a strip covering spine but spine design very poor with the two faces in random positions + SONY
4) MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - 11/2013 - A trio of tiny pics randomly spaced on spine + DISNEY (Zavvi)
5) THE LONE RANGER - 12/2013 - Single tiny pic on black spine + DISNEY (Zavvi)
6) WHITE HOUSE DOWN - 1/2014 - Saved by "C" shaped slip with title and good spine art continuing from front ++ SONY
7) THOR: THE DARK WORLD - 2/2014 - Artwork continuing from front with selection of good quality pics ++ DISNEY (Zavvi)
8) FROZEN - 3/2014 - Snowflake artwork with trio of pics saved by classic 52 number on slipcover spine and "ice" spine artwork ++ DISNEY (Zavvi)
9) CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER - 8/2014 - Good vibrant selection of pics ++ DISNEY (Zavvi)
10) GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - 11/2014 - Walkman controls +++ DISNEY (Zavvi)
11) MOCKINGJAY: PART ONE - 3/2015 - Almost totally blank spine partly saved by title on slipcover spine + LIONSGATE
12) SHAUN THE SHEEP - 6/2015 - STUDIO CANAL (Zavvi)
13) TERMINATOR 2 - 7/2015 - Totally blank spine (no Blu-ray or studio logo and the last word in minimal - LOL - and yes I did buy it in the end) + SONY (Zavvi)
14) CINDERELLA 2015 - 8/2015 - DISNEY (Zavvi)
15) AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON - 9/2015 Selection of quite dull pics ++ DISNEY (Zavvi)
16) DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS - 11/2015 - Artwork continuing across spine ++ ODEON
17) WOLFCOP - 9/2015 - Interesting spine cut in half vertically by front and back artwork ++ STUDIO CANAL (Zavvi)
18) ANT-MAN - 11/2015 - Three rows of dots top to bottom and luckily evenly spaced on my copy ++ DISNEY (Zavvi)
19) INSIDE OUT - 11/2015 - Characters' faces in roundels in the style of those MISERY typewriter keys +++ DISNEY (Zavvi)
20) THE MARTIAN - 2/2016 - No title coupled with no faces and a small portion of artwork continuing from the back + FOX (HMV)
21) THE GOOD DINOSAUR - 3/2016 - DISNEY (Zavvi)
22) ZOOTROPOLIS - 7/2016 - DISNEY (Zavvi)

It can be seen with these 22, plus the inevitable few that I might have missed - that the total number of U.K. steelbooks from the very first to the present MISSING SPINE TITLES is about 25 (or at least under 30) and that is 25 out of about 850 or to put it another way about 3 percent of the total of U.K. steelbooks since 5/2008 (the time of SWEENEY TODD, the first U.K. steel) - which I've got to say is hardly a large number.

It will also be noticed that the blame cannot be laid just at Disney's door for this although they are the main culprit.

Everyone will have their own personal views on the above examples - some unprintable - but these are mine :)

Thanks in advance to anyone reminding me of any missing titles.

5) THOR: THE DARK WORLD - 2/2014 - Artwork continuing from front with selection of good quality pics ++
6) FROZEN - 3/2014 - Snowflake artwork with a couple of pics saved by classic 52 number on slip spine and artwork ++
7) CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER - 8/2014 - Good vibrant selection of pics ++

You will see that with my 14, plus the others I haven't bought yet - maybe 4 or 5 - that the total number of U.K. steelbooks from the very first to now is fewer than 20 and that is 20 out of about 850 or to put it another way less than 2 1/2 percent.

Only god forgives has a title

Faint but it's there

Yes, you're quite right - just double checked - should have put on my specs.

Yeah you do need specs for it, it's incredibly faint

And you also missed out a couple like white house down, after Earth and monsters uni to name a few

Sigh I can't Believe I'm adding to your list

I wish I lived in the USA sometimes. They don't have discs that sit there waiting for you to select 'English' before they start playing. And they don't have these 'euro-generic' steelbooks with no titles anywhere, so you can sell Zootopia / Zootropolis / Zoomania using the same steelbook. I cancelled.

I love how your first and main reason to live to America is because you can't be f*cked to press a button on a menu lol

I don't get it. So the colour scheme on the back and in general is Orange and Blue. The back is Orange yet the front (the border) is just plain silver instead of Blue

I'm sorry but are these guys getting lazier and lazier.

Urgh it bugs me that all we can do is moan on here, not buy it and hope for the best. I really wish we could get some communications open with Disney or at least Zavvi for their crappy Steelbooks they approve when they are not World Wide artworks.

Liking all the pastel colours and thinking that the grey colour for the border isn't a bad idea at all:
- Firstly, it's neutral and doesn't clash with the artwork which as can be seen does have a fair amount of blue and grey in it.
- Secondly, it is just dark enough to properly frame the artwork and not blend into it.
- Thirdly, I like two-tone steels.
Certainly it's crowded but anybody familiar with Oxford Street or Regent Street on a Saturday will get an immediate sense of deja vu when looking at the front artwork :)

@virkia Among those 21 titleless steelbooks in your list, Disney alone produced 13 of them. Although there are exceptions, it is clear that Disney is following this titless path since Avengers in 9/2012. That's why I am pointing my finger at Disney.

And about the front and back artworks: you like them. Many don't. Each to their own. ;)

There's also the UGLY BBFC age rating logos.

Unfortunately the US is also the home of the hideous 'eco' cases with most of the plastic removed. You may as well buy a blu ray in a cardboard sleeve. And good luck finding a decent cup of tea! But that's off topic.

:hilarious:

At least they got coffee covered :coffee:

Yeesh, so unimpressed with this steelbook :/ The front art is nice, but feels more like a back art piece since it has no focus on the main characters, or indeed any focus at all. The back piece, shows off the characters but the boring background kills it, especially looking at the pics FA released of it, it's not even solid colour but that sort of coat where you get the metal texture through. But most of all is how the whole package just doesn't work. Looking at the side, the metal border from the front clashes with the orange from the back. The yellow dividers between the characters on the spine fit with no other elements of the design. With the J-card on, you can't even see the main characters on the front!
I think I'll be waiting for someone else to hopefully come out with some WEA or be happy with an amaray. Such a shame since I loved the film.
