I appreciate that sentiment...but exactly HOW are Mondo steelbooks deserving of this over HDzeta, Blufans, etc.?
Mondo is nice- but they don't eclipse the work of Blufans or Plain...
Just sayin':)
Maybe because it's international ?! A lot of country and retailer will touch it

Yeah, not really a consideration of who is "deserving" or "better". Our Staff at HDN simply chose to give added visibility to this long-standing art community (Mondo's artists), and their new product (Steelbooks), aside from all of the other types of items they've released for years, which are also covered on our site in the various collectibles communities throughout the forum. While some retailers and studios sometimes manage release "new" (WEA) art, it is rare to see completely new art being created for media products. As part of the mission of this site to give visibility to more unique products for collectibles from around the world, the Mondo X subforum was created and will remain a regular part of the community.

Enjoy the upcoming releases folks!:)

Does anyone know if this (alongside the other 2 mondo Target steels) will be in store for sale? On the website it says not sold in stores, but im assuming thats due to the release date still be a bit away.

Sorry if this has been answered before, can someone confirm if this and the other 2 target steels will be sold in stores on release day too?

If anyone should have their own subforum, it's Plain Archive.

Thanks for the feedback, no plans to add other sub forums for Steelbooks, though we may be able to make it a bit easier to find releases down the road.

Lets get the thread back on track folks-this is the Mondo forum. Thanks all!

Will this be sold in Target stores or only online?

Have this on the GB and really looking forward to getting it.

Didn't really fancy the landscape "flubber" steel so glad I waited. Would love to see more from Carpenters back catalogue released through Mondo, film seems to have come full circle and modern horrors are starting to echo his atmosphere (particularly his minimalistic soundtracks) but calling it "80's style". The idea of a life-form that can perfectly mimic human life but go bug-nuts crazy when discovered is something I'm amazed hasn't been further explored in film, (I mean how many alien/predator films has their been) although maybe that's a good thing as by now we'd have the "Thing vs Pumpkinhead" set in New York directed by Rob Cohen.

TL;DR Awesome steel, hope this sells well and they release more Carpenter titles.

Well, MIMIC kind of did exactly that! But- if filmmakers want to turn to the 80's for inspiration (The Guest, It Follows) more power to them. That was a golden age!
:hilarious:-flubber cover!-:hilarious:

@C.C. 95 agreed - two films I had in mind when I wrote that comment (It Follows is definitely Carpenter-esque). Think Carpenters music alone scared me half to death as a kid - that simple beat when the helicopter is chasing the noodle-dog across the snow. Yeesh.

@Driver
It Follows is definitely one of the best of the year for me! Can't wait to have The Thing Steel!
(I do have DAS DING cuz it is the classic Drew Struzan Artwork...but not 'Flubber' edition:LOL:. As much as I love the film- I could not bring myself to buy that god-awful edition!)
I hope maybe Prince Of Darkness next! Love that one!
...And (even though not a popular pick) I also loved Vampires!
James Woods fraggin Vamps on orders from the church with a priest by his side? Priceless.
(And don't tell me Robert Rodriguez didn't lift a whole bunch of that for Once Upon a Time in Mexico! He did...)

Here are two fan made fake Criterions I always thought would make great covers for The Thing (maybe for another steelbook in the future!):

@C.C. 95 Damn, Vampires - completely forgot about that (James Woods in full on Casino mode), I like that fanmade art - the dog is such an integral part of the film, anything with it just oozes tension and the havoc to come. Had a look to see if there's any Mondo stuff with the dog but there's nothing really (the fact that the Thing has all the blueprints for these creatures was more scary than the fact it could mimic humans).

And as for the flubber edition - landscape aside - who decided it would be fun to make the faces green!?

The Mondo artwork is great though, I like the desolation of the station in the background coupled with the starry sky - The desolate feel of the movie will fit the Mondo's approach to the back of their steels

Yeah- kinda weird how that dog close-up cover seems ominous! It's just a dog! (But we know the subtext!)
I dare say, this my favorite of all the Mondo X covers so far.
The flubber edition is like someone doubled up on the old Frankenstein rubber Halloween mask and melted them with a blow torch while filming it! Gaaaa!!!
Reminds me- I have a copy of, but have never played the PS3 The Thing Game! Maybe it is time to bust that out!
