This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo is taking a giant step towards returning to the glitzy, people-packed shows of three years ago, with attendance expected to be about ten times last year's show and the exhibit halls nearly the same size as the shows that once included ear-splitting rock bands, fire juggling and bikini-clad models.

E3 2009 will also see the return of a more relaxed registration policy for show-goers and rules that once more allow models on the expo floor.

The return to the size and glamor of earlier E3s comes after two years of downsizing and falling attendance at the show that once drew 70,000 people to Los Angeles to revel in all things video game.

In 2006, the Entertainment Software Association announced they would be downsizing the show and moving it to Santa Monica. In 2007, the show returned to the Los Angeles Convention Center, but remained a shadow of its former self. Several developers decided to not attend last year's show, including Activision, Atlus, Bethesda Softworks, NCsoft, Vivendi Games and Warner Bros. Interactive.

This year's list of attendees shows that all but NCsoft are returning to the show.

“The 2009 E3 Expo will be the preeminent North American computer and video game event,” said Michael D. Gallagher, CEO of the ESA. “With robust exhibitor sales, high attendee interest, and strong commitments from multiple industry sectors, we are going to ensure the full excitement and energy of this industry is on display.”

Currently about 70 exhibitors are listed as attending the show, which is more than double the number at last year's. And event organizers say that the floor is filling up quickly.

"We encourage interested companies to contact us because floor sales are going quickly with more than half sold out," a spokesman told me.

Another major change to the show is the new registration policy which has been relaxed to allow more attendees to make it into the show. The last two shows were by invitation only. But this year's show return's to the 2006 policy of allowing people to register to get in.

The show is open to all "credentialed" international and U.S.-based media, industry analysts, retailers, developers and business partners.

Industry professionals need to submit two pieces of identification showing they work in the industry and press credentials are acquired by registering on the site. Both media credentialing and attenddee registration is now official open over on the e3 site.

While the show floor maps aren't yet available on the official site, I've heard that this year's show will essentially be the same size as 2006's convention hall-filling show but without Kentia Hall.

:hilarious:

Yeah they should have different console colors from day 1 across the board.

I'm sure if there was a blood red PS3 at launch, I would have HAD to have one much sooner than when Sony threatened and executed the discontinuation of the 60gb models...

I'm really diggin the white PS3's.... not exactly sure why though. I could easily see myself picking up another one if they had colors - real colors though, those crappy skins don't cut it.

yeah the skins are nothing special i wish they would let you design your own ps3 on ps.com .but it will never happen.:(

UK, June 4, 2009 - Turn 10's recently announced Forza Motorsport 3 will push the disc capacity beyond its limit, with the game to ship on two discs according to a recent interview.

Speaking to Joystiq on the show floor at E3, Turn 10's John Wendl confirmed "It is going to ship on two discs. Disc one is the full experience, even disc one is bigger than any other racing game out there. Disc two includes a lot of extra cars, even a handful of tracks."

Essentially, this means the second disc will contain cars and tracks that can be downloaded onto the Xbox 360's hard drive – and it's a sure sign that the game will be brimming with content.

We've already had a couple of looks at Forza Motorsport 3 since its announcement on Monday – and it's shaping up to be something quite special.

LMFAO!!! And it begins!

meh Lost Odyssey came in 3 or 4 discs, is nothing we didn't know. Certainly moving content and storing it on your HDD sucks, have you guys seen the price tag on their HDDs? 120GB for $99!! EEK!

Their excuse is because they have software made for the Xbox.......right I am sure they do 120GB for $150 is right down a freakin rip-off! but oh well people are willing to let MS screw them that's their deal!

Despite expectations that Sony would lower the price of the PS3 at E3, the company announced no price drop at the big show. We asked why.

"From our perspective, this show is all about content," Sony's head of PlayStation marketing in the U.S., Peter Dille, told Kotaku in an interview yesterday. "We believe that our content story is unrivaled. It's really a relentless line-up of great exclusive games that will speak volumes to the value inherent in the PS3. Obviously people come to E3 expecting all sorts of announces. We've got a plan in place for the platform. A price drop at the show wasn't part of it."

The cheapest version of the PS3 on store shelves now is the $399.99 80GB model. The cheapest Xbox 360 is the harddrive-free $199.99 model. The Wii retails for $249.99. Sony's worldwide sales lag behind those of its cheaper competitors.

Prior to E3, spy shots of a rumored PS3 Slim made the rounds. Those images, while possibly fake, showed a box for such a unit that matched the box shown in other leaked shots for the then-unannounced PSP Go. Dille declined to comment on that PS3 Slim rumor, which some observers had tied in to the speculation that the console's price would soon drop.

no one ever bothers to metion all the stuff you need to buy for the xbox and wii.

because is much easier to say their competitors is $400 dollars out of the box, the mere thought that an Xbox and Wii are much cheaper is was gets the consumer to think they are much "cheaper"

I easily spent over $400 when I got my Wii and Xbox.

I go over this everyday with people at best buy, they dont see the big picture..

That's why I never bother explaining that to people when I worked at CCity, it's much easier to say yes is cheaper and then having them complain to you when they found out how much more they needed to spend. So I was always happy to say I TOLD YOU SO!! :D:scat:

Horhay, did you get the free backpack Alienware was giving out? Just checked inside and has a lot of cool freebies, loving my new 8gb flash drive!
