Favorite Foreign Films (& those on Netflix streaming)

Being a big fan of foreign films and because of Netflix streaming's great selection, I'd like to start a thread to list great/favorite foreign films to bring some to more recognition and to possibly introduce films to people who are unaware of this great category of films or to a specific title and have them discover "the wonders of cinema" lol.

Fans, feel free to list your fave foreign film or great ones you've seen, along with their country of origin and if they're on Netflix streaming (as this is the easiest/cheapest way to discover them nowadays).

Hopefully, each of us can discover and love a film that we were previously unaware of.

I'll start with a few of my faves:

- OldBoy (Korea) [Netflix]
- Lady Vengeance (Korea) [Netflix]
- Red Riding: 1974 (UK) [Netflix]
- Red Riding: 1980 (UK) [Netflix]
- Red Riding: 1983 (UK) [Netflix]
- Departures (Japan) [Netflix]
- The Secret In Their Eyes (Argentina) [Netflix]

IP Man (Hong Kong) <----- my favorite by far!
El Secreto En Sus Ojos (The Secret in Their Eyes) (Argentina)
Un Prophete (A Prophet) (France)
Y Tu Mama Tambien (Mexico)
Red Cliff (Hong Kong?)

For now those are my personal favorites.

Great picks. South Korea's got A LOT of great films. And A Prophet is a masterpiece. If you like that, the Mesrine films are great too. And if you like IP Man, you've gotta see SPL (Kill Zone) and Flashpoint. Donnie Yen is ridiculous with his choreography.
I've gotta check out The Appeared and Cold Prey.

A few more I've thought of:

- A Bittersweet Life (Korea) [Netflix]
- Memories of Murder (Korea) [Netflix]
- The Host (Korea) [Netflix]
- Mother (Korea) [Netflix]
- Election (Hong Kong) [Netflix]
- Election 2 (Hong Kong) [Netflix]
- SPL aka Kill Zone (Hong Kong) [Netflix]
- Flash Point (Hong Kong) [Netflix]
- The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Sweden) [Netflix] {being remade by David Fincher}
- The Girl Who Played With Fire (Sweden) [Netflix]
- The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest (Sweden) [Netflix]

....back with more when I think of it....

A Prophete is simply an amazing film no doubt about that. Been hearing alot about The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and it's in my queue already. I will check out SPL and Flashpoint as well, I like Donnie Yen a lot so I will have to check them out. Thanks for pointing those out I will try to watch these soon.

Also, Downfall (Germany) is among my favorites.

Oh wow, I forgot about Downfall. Some great acting in there.

Yeah, let me know what you think of SPL and Flashpoint when you see them.

- The Twilight Samurai (Japan)
- The Hidden Blade (Japan)
- Love and Honor (Japan)
- Ils (Them) (France) [Netflix]
- The Lives of Others (Germany)
- Infernal Affairs trilogy (Hong Kong) {inspired 'The Departed'}

Yeah, Chaser is a great, great film. Reminds me of Se7en. Have you heard of their new movie, called Murderer? Same actor & director and I've heard it's as good as, if not better, than Chaser. Trailer here.

Ichi the Killer and Save The Green Planet are very unique films but nonetheless awesome.

And if you mean 13 Tzameti by 13, that is a really disturbing film. I had chills watching that film with all it's tension. I just hope the remake doesn't suck although it probably will; especially with 50 Cent being in there.
