The Deer Hunter 4k Steelbook.
HMV/Amazon recent stock.

Not as bad as everyone thinks (me included). A clean zero finish. A divisive design choice going with this modern poster redesign.

Is it as nice is the Wonka steel?

Hell NO!

Could it have been better?

Hell YES!

But. It's really not that bad at all to be honest. It's a decent average steelbook.

If you don't already own the older Blu-ray or a 4k, I'd say it's a good pick-up at this price. If you can find it still on HMV & Amazon.

New (old) pickup.

Cloud Atlas Blu-ray Steelbook

I think this is an undervalued and underrated movie. I can see why it struggled to connect with audiences who were asked to make some very large contextual and expositionary leaps.

I love it.

The steel is also a little mercurial. It's a flat, almost bare zero finish with a couple of gorgeous metallic spots. I've tried to highlight.

In some lights it looks absolutely stunning, whilst in others it looks greasy and cheap...I don't know if it might have benefited from a matte cover finish.

I love it as well

Such an off kilter steel. Very in keeping with the film.

I believe that there's a French release that has the cast in pyramid shape on the front (some collectors hate the cast adorning the front of steels) but Ive heard that's also particularly nice.

Great steel. But divisive.

Another new(old) pick-up

JFK Blu-Ray Steelbook

Great zero finish, printing is solid on this one and with an unexpected debossed title. Actually a really lovely steel. Glad I've now got hold of a sweet clean copy.

Love the film and haven't picked this up since the old DVD days, but I hear this "remastered" blu ray from years ago was a total dumpster fire and Oliver Stone disowned it, calling it an utter disgrace. :cigar:

Importing Shout Factory's new 4K is the way to go, Stone over saw the process and it looks incredible.

I'll pick it up eventually or if some UK company decides to do their own 4k

This Steelbook is too hard to resist though, even if the Blu-ray transfer is ass. :BS:

Been after this for a while. Missed out several times because I'm cheap lol. But patience always win in the end.

At one point these were difficult to find at a good price. With Shouts 4k on release, the old UK/EU steels are a bit more readily available second hand.
I even saw a German Metalpak one a while back.

So glad I found one of the Funimation Metal Case releases.
Not sure what this type of case is actually called but the heavenly embossing is "God Tier" level quality.

Tried to photograph some comparisons with the same WWA Blu-ray Steelbook design.

(Now I also wish I had the premium Kimchi release as well. Anyone want to sell me one? :D:rofl:)
