Per Home Media Magazine:

"Image Entertainment Oct. 5 said it signed a deal that allows it to distribute select Imax titles in 3D Blu-ray Disc — the first releases in the popular theatrical format for the Chatsworth, Calif.-based distributor.

Image thereby joins major studios in ratcheting up distribution of 3D Blu-ray titles in response to accelerated efforts within the consumer electronics industry to bring 3D entertainment into the home via 3D-capable Blu-ray players and HDTVs.

In the agreement with Big Picture Digital Productions, Image Dec. 7 will bow Grand Canyon Adventure: River At Risk, Wild Ocean and Dinosaurs Alive! Other titles to be released will be announced shortly.

All titles were originally conceived, photographed and released in ultra high-resolution Imax 3D process. For these releases, Image worked with Big Picture to optimize the 3D image for home viewing, scanning the original 15/70 image at a minimum of 5.6K, and in some cases, 8K resolution for the 3D Blu-ray release.

Fans concerned about 3D “conversions” can rest assured that these releases were conceived, photographed and produced in the multidimension format, and that fidelity will be faithfully translated with Image’s 3D Blu-ray releases, according to Bill Bromiley, chief acquisitions officer with Image.

“3D Blu-ray is the next revolution for home entertainment,” Bromiley said. “Coupled with the amazing visual clarity of the Imax process, these Blu-ray titles will vividly bring home the 3D experience to consumers and enthusiasts everywhere.”"
