Lord of the Rings: War in the North revealed

Are you longing for a trip back to Middle-earth? Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has your back as it officially revealed Lord of the Rings: War in the North for PlayStation 3. If you’ve been waiting to see your Hobbit friends, you’ll have to wait until 2011 for the game’s release.

This is a Mature-rating multiplayer action-RPG game based on both the movies and the novels from J.R.R. Tolkien. The game is being developed by Snowblind Studios, in conjunction with Middle-earth Enterprises. Snowblind brought you games like Justice League Heroes and Champions of Norrath.

You’ll become the heroes in War in the North, as you battle in the epic War of the Ring. The game features extensive character customization and development, expansive co-op gameplay (with up the three players), upgradeable weapons, skills and special abilities – just what we hoped for from an action-RPG.

Look for the game out in 2011.

Snowblind Studios and Warner Bros' latest Lord of the Rings: War in the North trailer gears up for next week's Gamescom in the best way possible... with pure, unadulterated violence.

That means you'll see plenty of decapitations with a whole host of weapons including blades and an axe, an arrow through the eye of an Ork, plenty of black blood spilled, a few magic kills and so much more.

To date we've seen a couple of nifty CGI scenes for the upcoming 2011 title, all we need to see now is some gameplay. We'll be checking it out at Gamescom, so stick close and we'll update you on how it's shaping up... hopefully that's a lot better than Conquest...

Lord of the Rings: War in the North Weapons Video

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer Snowblind Studios continue to release new videos for Lord of the Rings: War in the North, with this latest instalment covering the game's weapons that you'll be wielding when it releases later this year, with input from Combat Designer, Ian Scott.

Of course, there's big swords to wield, battle-axes, bows and all of the usual weaponry you'd expect, or you can play the part of a wizardy mage sniper, with your staff doubling as a magic-dispensing machine gun, complete with crosshairs. You'll need these formidable arms to take down the towering trolls and giant spiders you'll face as you embark upon your perilous quest.

Check out the new trailer, which goes behind the scenes on the development of the game's weapons and features more head-severing footage. Lord of the Rings: War in the North is out sometime in 2011.
