TBH - the French steelbook is really nice. The reverse slip is great. I don't think there really needs to be another steelbook.

No. My experience with anime does not extend beyond AKIRA and GHOST IN THE SHELL...
(I just never liked the style of Japanese animation. I am more of a Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng kind of a guy)

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the movies. They're very weak, especially the first one. I haven't seen the anime, but I've been told it's quite good. The original comic on the other hand is totally ace though. I highly recommend it if you like monsters/transformation. It's like an 80s Japanese version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but with more violence. The violence isn't gratuitous though and it's done in a very matter of fact and darkly humorous kind of way.

Yeah, it's been translated. There are eight volumes all up that you can get in print or digitally for about $10USD each. Alternatively, I'm sure you can find it online by other means...
